In the early 1900s, a man by the name of Samuel Winchester developed a flashlight that could be used as a weapon. This device was called the Winchester Repeating Arms Company rifle light, and it had two devices that were connected to each other directly. The user would pull the cord to turn on the flashlight, and then they would put their hand over the front of the both devices to hold them together. This arrangement allowed for some serious firepower when used in close quarters combat. The first time this weapon was ever used in Santa Paula, CA was during World War I. A local man named Harry Laughlin decided to use this type of flashlight in order to help defend against German snipers who were attacking his town. He shot at several of these snipers with his Winchester light, and he managed to kill one of them before he died from his injuries. Santa Paula is a small city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 6,326 at the 2010 census. In 1872 the community of Westlake Village was platted adjacent to what would become downtown Santa Paula; this area now forms around 4% of the city's total area but makes up over 60% of its economy because it houses most of the city's businesses including many high-tech companies such as Intel Xeon Phi Americas Corporation (INTC), Qualcomm Atheros Communications Limited Partnership (QCOMP) and Nvidia Corporation (NVDA). Downtown Santa Paula has been declared a historic district by LACMA which includes some 212 buildings dating back to 1870s. In addition to its economic importance downtownSantaPaula also contains several museums including boththe UniversityofCaliforniaSantaPaulaandLACMAwhichtogetheraccountforalmosthalfofthecitys GDP. Downtown also contains many restaurants, bars and nightlife options making it an ideal place for shopping or dining out during business hours outsideofthedowntownliving areas likeWestlakeVillageorDowntownSantaphoraHillsAddition.(see map below for more information about these areas) In addition there are several parks located within walking distanceofdowntownincludingNewark Park(adjacenttoLacma MuseumofArt&Design), Olmsted Park(adjacenttotheUniversityofCaliforniaDavis),Civic CenterPark(adjacenttotheCity Hall)), Kern Riverpark( adjoining Kern Valley Regional Open Space Preserve ), Bell Gardens park( adjacentBell Gardens Neighborhood Development Project )and much more!

Santa Paula ( Spanish: Santísima Trinidad de Santa Paula) is a city in southeastern California, United States. The population was 797 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Santa Paula was founded by Mexican missionaries on November 4, 1821 as Santiago de Padre village, after their travel to California during the trip of Father José María Ferrer. The Mission Santa Paula Station was built on what is now First Street in 1824 and became the first Mexican mission in Alta California. The City of Santa Paula incorporated as a city on December 3, 1898. In 1907 it annexed Rancho Rinconada which extended from present day Second Street east to Third Street and north to Cottage Grove Road northwest of Interstate 5. The annexation created a second municipality called Rinconada within Santa Paula limits but it did not take effect until 1912 when both cities merged into one with an overall population of over 6,000 people. On October 1st 1942 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and destroyed much of downtown Santa Paula; however most residents were able to get away before evacuation began and only a few buildings sustained serious damage or loss including Mission San José del Bautista Church which had been used as an air raid shelter for civilians nearby during World War II In 1951 the community voted overwhelmingly to annex Unincorporated area dating back to 1886 known as East Palo Alto which lies outside the boundaries of Santa Paula
The town of Santa Paula was founded in 1853 by Jedediah Smith, a fur trader who named it for his daughter-in-law, Santa Paula. The first permanent settler was James Hagedorn, who arrived in 1854. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its natural resources, such as watermelons, grapes, and tomatoes. In 1905, the United States Post Office opened in Santa Paula and quickly became one of the most popular destinations for mail order catalogues. By 1916, the population had reached 2,500 residents. However, during World War I (1914–18), Santa Paula was occupied by German forces and few residents were able to return until 1919 when they were liberated by U.S. troops under General John Pershing. In 1924, the California State Legislature passed Assembly Bill No. 597 which created a state park at Santa Paula Shoreline along Ventura Harbor with land purchased from Jardine Mathews Properties Limited for $3 million dollars. The state park is now known as Ventura County Park and offers a variety of activities including fishing (specifically bluegill), boating/kayaking/canoeing/diving/swimming; hiking; bicycling; birdwatching; concerts;PLAYA VISTA – open Wednesdays through Sundays year-round from 9am to 6pm (with no admission charge); food & beverage sales are available at various locations within the park boundary including Splashpad beach concessionaire concessions located on Point Conception Beach from May through September and on Anacapa Island from October through March ;and restroom facilities are available at scenic points within the park boundaries . Santa Paula also played host to many famous people over the years including Hollywood stars like Clark Gable and Myrna Loy; tennis greats like Norm Norman and Arthur Ashe; athletes such as Lou Gehrig and Jesse Owens; musicians like Emmylou Harris and Willie Dixon
