Today, much has changed since those heady days when pioneers walked hand-in-hand down Main Street between two churches housing their first store and home - A&P grocery store which still stands today as one of town’s most popular attractions; First Lutheran Church which served as both church and meeting space for citizens from all walks of life; Schoolhouse Lane Baptist Church where classes met twice daily from 6:00am until 3:00pm before finally going off to lunch at Lighthouse Cafe afterwards; Pioneer Cemetery where tombstones are still standing from pioneer days such as Custer’s Battalion buried here during Mexican-American War; twelve contributing wells supplying irrigation for agriculture back then as well as now providing drinking water for over 1 million people living within driving distance of downtown Santa Paula!
