Santa Paula, California is an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, California. It lies on the eastern border of San Pablo Bay, at an elevation of 113 feet (35 m). Santa Paula was founded in 1853 by Captain John C. Fremont and his wife Christina Pemberton as a small depot on the route between Antioch and San Francisco. The town grew rapidly during the Gold Rush era, becoming one of the largest towns in Northern California. Santa Paula became a city in 1915, when it annexed part of neighboring Emeryville. The population of Santa Paula peaked at 382 people in 1940, but has since declined due to commuting to nearby Oakland and Berkeley. The town is located along State Route 1A which runs through its center; Highway 101 Access Road leads south from the town limits towards Emeryville and other nearby cities. Northbound SR 1A becomes University Avenue after crossing Interstate 680 near Livermore National Laboratory; US 101 Alternate leads east from US 101 Alternate towards Daly City before turning northwest into Silicon Valley. The first written mention of what is now Santa Paula date back to 1853 when Captain John C Fremont established a small post within sight of Alcatraz Island for wagon passengers bound for Stockton or Sacramento via San Francisco Bay Bridge

Santa Paula, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 3,387 at the 2010 census. Santa Paula was founded on October 15, 1852 by Captain John W. Dixon and his wife Lillie Ann Dixon as a rancho (land grant) named San Pablo Rancho de las Islas Californias y la Laguna Seca. Commodore James Kenedy purchased the Rancho La Cholla from Lillie Ann Dixon in 1875 and renamed it Santa Paula after himself. In 1915, the post office changed its name to Santa Paula City and the city's first mayor was Harry Bendixen who had come to live there in 1911 when he married Jane Norton of Stockton. The town site was chosen because of its proximity to Mission Trails No. 2 and 4 which led from Los Angeles down through San Bernardino Valley to Yuma Desert National Monument just outside of Santa Paula on Highway 97. The mission trails are now open for public visitation starting April 1st each year during springtime when they reopen to vehicles only after heavy rains have stopped most of the water seeping into them from underground reservoirs built for that purpose by Southern California Edison Company pursuant to Proposition 218 of November 6, 1978. Most visitors drive out onto Route 98 about one-and-a-half miles east of downtown Santa Paula where they take a scenic walk or bike ride around some beautiful countryside before returning home or going on another day's hike or bike ride back up the same trails all the way back to Los Angeles via Highway 97 near Atwater Dam Recreation Area
In 1847, the California gold Rush began and quickly led to a boom in population in Santa Paula. The town was founded on November 4, 1847 by Captain John C. Fremont and his family as a post office named for his wife, Santa Paula (the land was given to him by the Mexican government). The first store in Santa Paula opened in 1850. By 1861, there were twenty-one businesses in the town and it had a population of 2,500 people. In 1865, the post office moved from its original location to what is now downtownSanta Paula. In 1868, the United States Signal Corps built an Officers’ Training School at what is now Don Pedro's Barracks on Don Pablo Creek for military officers awaiting commissioning into the U.S. Army or Navy. The school operated until 1915 when it was replaced by local High School which still operates today as part of Parkland Junior-Senior High School District No. 1
