In the early 1800s, Santa Paula was a small settlement located in the foothills of the Santa Barbara Mountains. The area now known as Santa Paula was first populated by Native Americans and Missionaries who arrived in 1821. On November 29th, 1849, after hearing about an Indian massacre near Ventura Countyline he decided to march his militia against the Indians and marched them into battle at Rancho Los Nietos which resulted in three dead On December 5th he again led his troops against indigenous people at Rancho San Fernando where six were killed including two Captains of Cavalry Jacob Riis and George Pickett After several months of action General John Custer's 7th Cavalry Regiment skirmished with Apaches near present day Folsom Field on January 8th 1850 while under way from Fort Yuma towards Tucson Arizona Territory under orders from Commodore Perry.. A Comanche raiding party attacked this unit resulting in one man being killed, five horses being captured and eleven men wounded. One token scalp was taken but no word spread about it because Commodore Perry wanted to avoid alarm among friendly nations before making another attempt on Mexico City It wasn’t until February 12th when a bandit force ambushed Captain Pickett's column northwest ofpresent day Fillmore east of Buttonwillow . Twelve men were killed including CaptainPickett five horses were captured including their saddles which some say may have been used as trophies later

In 2007-2008 construction began on a massive expansion project that will add thousands of jobs to the local economy – including many for locals directly involved with construction projects such as truck drivers and engineers!
