The company name was changed to Paramount Pictures Corporation in 1922 when Famous Players-Lasky merged with other movie studios into Universal Film Manufacturing Company. In 1944, General Motors transferred its entertainment assets (including Paramount) to Hearst Corporation, which renamed it Entertainment Incorporated. In 1957, Hearst Corporation sold its interest in Entertainment Incorporated back to General Motors through an agreement that divided film production among Hearst corporations and gave GM control over TV networks such as ABC and CBS; this led to the industry's first cross-owned studio system later called "Big Three" television networks
