Santa Monica, California was founded on October 15, 1887 by two Spaniards, José María Pico and Manuel Nieto. The town was named for Saint Monica of Rome. In 1927, City Hall was built on what is now Olympic Boulevard west of NBC Studios complex making it one of only a handful municipalities in Southern California to have its own City Hall Building at this time-period!
