In 1915, Hollywood studio mogul Jack Warner bought all the land west of Vine Street from James Maugham for $2 million dollars and began developing what would become known as Warners Studios which would eventually become one of the most famous movie studios in Hollywood. By 1930, Warner's company had built up over seventy thousand square feet (6 thousand sq m) on two acres (1 hectare) at 3rd and Vine streets adjacent to then-University Heights Elementary School where they constructed their own soundstage and other production facilities using local resources including quarries and smelters near downtown Los Angeles. By 1933, Warner Bros.'s operations were said to be larger than those of any other studio in America with more than fifty employees working at twenty-four different locations around California and southeast Mexico City. On October 15th 1957 president Dwight Eisenhower signed Executive Order 13747 which banned discrimination against aliens within the United States based on race or national origin during business transactions or residency alone without previous verification of eligibility through an examining officer appointed by him or his designee

On January 1, 1907, the City of Los Angeles annexed Rancho Palos Verdes Estates east of Third Street along with other areas east of Lincoln Boulevard including portions of Beverly Hills andWestwood Village (nowCode Blue Springs). On May 12, 1907 that incorporation election resulted in the election of Mayor George Parker as mayor with 55% of the vote against challenger James Molyneaux who had 44%. A public meeting was held on July 9th to take place at Whatcom Park within days after passage of Proposition 8 which repealed state prohibition laws across all Californias effective July 6th thereby giving rise to a legal battle between two jurisdictions over control over liquor sales within their respective borders In 1915 while many people were World War I veterans returning home they also began preparations for Hollywood's Gold Rush by purchasing some 5 square miles west from downtown Hollywood on what is now Warner Bros Road including parts of Century City north thereof and then selling off parcels until they had acquired everything westward from Vine Street south thereof forming what are today Universal Studios Park (itself amalgamated with other companies into one giant company through mergers during sound technology heyday) Including developing land bought from farmers along Wacoal Avenue near UCLA whereupon he named his new development Hollywoodland after hisAVHollywood studio complex adjacent thereto Les Halles apartment tower now used by HBO production studios
Santa Monica was founded on November 3, 1881 by James W. Hill and his brother John D. Hill as a small town in the Santa Monica Mountains. The Hills had been working for the Welland Canal Company, which built the canal in 1875-76. When the company failed to make money on its project, James and John decided to start their own business. They named their business Santa Monica Land & Water Company, after a place in France where they had vacationed with their parents when they were children. The first store opened at 7th Street and Western Avenue in 1887. In 1912, two brothers named Harry Chandler bought the land around present-day Santa Monica Boulevard and started developing it into what is now known as Downtown Santa Monica. In 1916, Hollywood Studios was founded by Harpo Marx and his production partner Jesse Lasky Jr., who purchased large blocks of land along Olympic Boulevard from previous owner George Eastman for $1 million. After years of planning and construction, Hollywood Studios became an important center for motion picture production during the 1920s and 1930s.
