It wasn’t until 1934 that Santa Monica finally became autonomous from Los Angeles County when it formed its own municipal government under the leadership of Mayor John D’Angelo (1934-1939). At this time, airgun ownership increased significantly due to new laws permitting open carry within city limits – something that still remains legal today in much of Southern California. This single event helped spur development in DowntownSantaMonica throughout most of the 20th century; it remains oneof its primary attractions today!
