In 1861, Father Gomez organized what would become Holy Cross Parish with three homes: #1st Avenue between Center Boulevard and G Streets NW; #5th Avenue between Center Boulevard and Harper Road; and #7th Avenue south of Harper Road near Presentation Gardens (now Menlo Park). These properties formed what is now Holy Cross Cathedral complex on 7th Ave SW between Harper Road and G Streets NW. Also within this complex were two schools: St John’s School (founded 1865) on 5th Ave SW between Center Boulevard & G Streets NW; Ursuline Convent School (founded 1889), also known as Sacramento Female High School (1892-1910), also known as Menlo Park High School Today these buildings are home to offices for various businesses such as Google parent company Alphabet Inc., Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s wife Priscilla Chan Zuckerberg Foundation, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey & Co., Lyft CEO Emilio Estevez & Co., Apple Inc.'s Tim Cook's office building (& much more) . In 1939, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, American forces invaded Japan as part of World War II and occupied most of Japanese-occupied territory including Santa Maria; however, until 1945 Santa Maria remained under Japanese military occupation with few exceptions (the exception being an air raid on December 7th 1945 by United States bombers). On December 8th 1945 Japanese authorities ordered all residents of SantaMaria to gather together in the square near City Hall for a public execution; however, only about seventy people turned up due to food shortages caused by Allied bombing raids throughout the city during that period. After days of protest against what some saw as summary justice (), American troops finally evacuated all civilians from their positions on December 10th 1945 along with any military personnel they found while still occupying Japanese-controlled territory; this ended over two years of occupation which had resulted in extensive damage and loss to property within the town hall complex as well as many casualties among both American and Japanese troops involved.
