Santa Fe Springs, California is a small city in San Bernardino County, California. It is located about 25 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and about 17 miles west of Riverside. The population was 3,814 as of the 2010 census. Santa Fe Springs was established in 1887 by John C. Fremont and his wife Mary Sweeny. The city's first post office opened on December 22, 1887. The name "Santa Fe Springs" was chosen because it resembled springs found in New Mexico and Arizona. The original spring water ran off the mountainside and into the valley below, providing drinking water for settlers who called the area "the Donner Party." The city's first store was built on Main Street in 1890 by J.C. Fremont, Sr.. A second store was built on Highland Avenue in 1903 by Fenton Waddell and Halsey Leland Huntley. In 1907, the City Council enacted an ordinance establishing Sunday night sales only within walking distance of public libraries open from 6pm to 8pm during weekdays; this ordinance remains in effect today. In 1912–13, construction began on what would become known as Central Park which included a park stadium with a capacity of 10,000 people and two ice rinks (now closed). The park opened to the public on October 15th 1913 In 1916 when Measure M passed by voter approval giving residents voting rights for cities over 2,500 inhabitants - including Santa Fe Springs - it became an incorporated town under state law with its own mayor and council members

Santa Fe Springs, California is located in San Bernardino County and is the most populous city in the county. The population of Santa Fe Springs was estimated to be over 200,000 as of 2010. It was founded by Mexicans who were displaced by the 1847 gold rush. The city was first called Inyo City but it was renamed after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna because he had been instrumental in driving Mexican forces from California during the Mexican War of Independence. The area that now makes up Santa Fe Springs was originally a part of Imperial Valley and served as an agricultural outpost for settlers coming westward during the late 1800s. Development began on a small piece of land near present-day downtown Santa Fe Springs around 1905 when developers leased an old mine and drilled a well to extract water for irrigation purposes. By 1912, two hotels had been built and several other businesses had opened including a grocery store, bakery, cigar shop, post office, and theater. In 1916, local citizens created a board of supervisors to manage affairs within the town limits while they developed plans for expanding the city into what is today its central business district. By 1923, residents had constructed a new courthouse and jail which became one of downtown's earliest landmarks. In 1944, following World War II's Veterans Administration boomtown designation program which placed emphasis on community development across all American regions, Santa Fe Springs emerged as one of twelve planned communities statewide under WRPC auspices. Santa Fe Springs was founded in 1887 by Edwin L. Pearce and Charles H. Smith as a small town located on the east bank of the Peninsular River near present-day Alpine, California. The community grew rapidly due to its location within easy reach of San Diego and other major cities. By 1911, Santa Fe Springs had become a thriving center for the agricultural industry with several large businesses including an flour mill, tannery, bakery, grocery store, post office and hospital. One of the most notable residents of Santa Fe Springs was entrepreneur George Wirtz who played an important role in developing both the city's economy and its social life. In 1912, Wirtz donated land to create what would eventually become North Park District which included much of downtown Santa Fe Springs as well as numerous public buildings including the Municipal Building and County Courthouse.Wirtz served as president of North Park District from 1916 until his death in 1920. He is also buried at Elmwood Cemetery in SantaFe Springs. The population of Santa Fe Springs declined during World War II due to rationing but resumed growth following the war when new housing developments began popping up in nearby Alpine and peripheral communities. However, rapid gentrification caused many residents to leave for higher-paying jobs elsewhere by the early 21st century. Today, little remainsof old downtown except for some historical markers commemorating earlier years
