Santa Fe Springs, California is a small city located in Kern County, California. The population was 33,246 at the 2010 census. Santa Fe Springs is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and straddles the border of Los Angeles and Orange counties. It is bordered by downtown LA on the west and east and Westchester Avenue on the north. Downtown Santa Fe Springs also borders Valencia to its south while another small neighborhood lies to the east of Interstate 5 just outside of town limits. The first Europeans to visit what is now Santa Fe Springs were Spanish Missionarios who arrived in 1769 from Caracas, Venezuela with their mixed-blood Indian guides Francisco Javier Lopez and Gaspar de Portolà. In 1836 Mexican General Antonio López Herrera ordered General José Joaquín Herrera's division to besiege Mexican Californian settlements at regular intervals for control over this area between Mexico City and Stockton; these campaigns led to increased tensions between Mexican nationals and American settlers in California. On November 6, 1836 Ulysses S. Grant recognized Mexican independence from Spain with a proclamation that read: "Now I publish these United States of America as independent countries … all men are brotherly & without distinction of race or color." In 1839Mexican Simón Bolívar founded Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Purísima Concepción de Agua Caliente (Creek Indians) near present-day Pasadena which became known as Santa Fe Wells because so much water came out during winter rains. A year later on April 10th 1840 gold was found at San Gabriel River near today's Ontario Street in nearby San Bernardino County by prospectors working for John Wesley Powell; this discovery marked an important change for California as it opened up new lands for settlement which would eventually include Santa Fe Springs proper within our boundaries. On October 15th 1850Powell directed his expedition under Lieutenant Commander George Cushing through Obstruction Pass northeast of today's Western Avenue into what is now Kern County in search for additional goldfields; they were successful but lost many people along the way including four members of their own party including Captain James Wolk (1811-1892), Commanding Officer on Expedition Cushing Gold Rush Kit Carson Expedition Sharer Mining Company). The event has been called "the first commercial exploration trip in North America". After two failed attempts he finally reached Sacramento Valley in January 1851 where he discoveredgold fields around Bear Creek that same year but abandoned them due to cost overruns caused by overgrazing by local cattlemen; this event helped lead to severe land degradation throughout much of central California resulting from overpopulation and lack of

In 1848, General Mariano Jarrín sold parcels of land east of present-day downtown Santa Fe Springs for $1 million to Pacheco Brothers, developers of what would become Riverside County and American City Park over which they would have exclusive control beginning in 1881. By 1870, many people had moved into what became known as the "Old Town" area around Rucker Avenue and Main Street north of First Avenue eastward from Second Street southward; this included most of today's downtown including much of la Mesa (the Old Town) neighborhood as well as parts of Riverside Park northeast along First Avenue eastward to Third Street and northwest along Vine Street eastward across Interstate 10 to its current terminus at Broadway near Interstate 15
Santa Fe Springs was founded in 1892 by John Anson Phelps and his wife, Emma. The town grew quickly due to its natural resources, including watermelons, oranges, and other fruit trees. In 1912 the railroad arrived, helping to speed up the growth of the town. Santa Fe Springs became an incorporated city in 1933.
