It is the easternmost city on the U.S.–Mexico border and has been a center of population and culture for over 100 years. The current population of Santa Fe Springs was 43,724 as of the 2010 census. The area that would become Santa Fe Springs was originally settled by Mormon missionaries in 1847. In 1853, the town was founded by Captain Manuel Nieto who named it after his birthplace in Spain – Santiago de Compostela. The first post office was established in 1854 and the first store opened in 1860. The name “Santa Fe” came about because one of the founders, José María Alvarado, had brought a group ofSpanish Catholics to this area to establish missions near what is now downtown Los Angeles on May 24th, 1849. In 1905, entrepreneur Waddell Stevens developed an oil refinery at what is now called Texaco Park which attracted businesses and workers to town from all over Southern California including Pasadena and Long Beach. By 1907 there were more than 30 businesses operating in downtown SantaFe Springs with a population of around 1,000 people . However during World War I many residents left for military service; during World War II they largely shifted into residential areas east of Interstate 10 or north of University Boulevard such as Northwood Village and Garden Grove Hills outside Downtown San Diego but some returned to live within their original community after hostilities ended . Businesses revived following the end of World War II until rapid growth led to problems with infrastructure occasioned by suburbanization that began in the early 1970s when developers built shopping malls rather than allow open-air markets which gave rise to concerns about traffic congestion caused by ever-growing populations density inside urban neighborhoods while also encouraging car use instead of public transportation
The population of Santa Fe Springs, California was 2,521 as of the 2010 census. The community was founded on December 29, 1885 by a group of men from San Diego and Chula Vista who met to discuss the possibility of creating a town in what is now Oceanside County. The name for the community was chosen because it had been given to two small communities near Los Angeles: Solana Beach (1884) and Carpinteria (1886).
