Santa Fe Springs is located on the southern edge of Riverside County and is bordered by Moreno Valley to the east and west, Cathedral City to the north, and West Covina to the south. The name referred to springs that lay near Cucamonga Rancho Santa Anita on either side of Mission Road (now Orange Avenue). Today part of Santa Fe Springs lies within Jurupa Hills while most of it falls within Riverside County. In 1892, when Hildebrandt Sutter founded his company First National Bank in downtown Los Angeles he named his new bank after himself - Santa Fe National Bank. In 1907 following incorporation as a city, streets were designated block numbers starting with blocks 5-9 which corresponded with old Spanish mission blocks numbered 1-3 (Alameda Street/Mission Road now Federal Boulevard/Cordova Avenue). Different branches were opened throughout Southern California including one in Anaheim (now Garden Grove) which opened on July 17th 1906 by J P Morgan & Co.. Just prior to its opening Japanese Americans working for American munitions plants were concentration camp inmates during World War II at El Toro Coast Defense Camp until theirrelease on October 20th 1945. Thereafter many Japanese Americans returned home and began businesses such as Kojima's Gelato store located at 424 Elmira Ave today known as Ohana Asian Grill
