In 1865, John Moses Browning designed and built his first rifle inSantaFeSprings called the “Browning Automatic Rifle” which fired 5 rounds per minute with a 30-round magazine capacity. It featured a forward-firing barrel for greater accuracy and was chambered for bullets such as .25 caliber Winchester cartridges which were very powerful at that time. The popularity of handguns led to their proliferation throughout America during World War II; however, they were not widely used until after the war ended due to strict laws against carrying firearms outside of military bases or police forces areas

From 1942 until 1945, over 50% of all jobs in SantaFe Springs were with military service providers such as shipbuilders and munitions manufacturers at Point Loma Naval Base. In 1951, after years of discussion between city officials and business owners about what type or style development would be most popular among residents, a new downtown commercial district was developed that included many modern buildings dating back to the 1950s including City Hall Annex (now known as Tower One), shopping mallsanchored around First Avenue and Terminal Road (now known as Alhambra Boulevard),and two hospitals: Banner Hospital Medical Center on First Avenue between Terminal Road and Tower One Streets and University Medical Center on Second Avenue between Terminal Road and Tower One Streets adjacent to City Hall Annex
