The first recorded use of a gun sling in Santa Fe Springs was on July 5th, 1884 when Wm. Halsey leased the lot at 226 N Main Street from A.F. White Company for $5 per year with the understanding that no firearms would be kept there except shotguns and rifles for hunting purposes only. In 1907 the Gun Slings company was organized with Jens Hansen as president and his son John Dickson as secretary/treasurer. In 1917 William Sperlich became president and continued the dynasty until his death in 1951. During World War II production of gun slings increased because of war rationing which led to an increase in demand for these items by civilians as well as military personnel who needed to protect themselves from enemy fire while carrying munitions or ammo into battle. Today,gun slings are still used extensively by Californians for a variety of activities including target shooting, fishing, camping and birdwatching; however, they are not typically available at local sporting goods stores like they once were due to their high cost or lack of availability

Since then, Santa Fe Springs has experienced steady declines in population and economic status. However, the city remains an important cultural and commercial center within San Diego County.
Santa Fe Springs was founded in 1887 by J.P. Morgan and his partners, Ezra Pound and George Sherman. The original name of the town was "Rancho San Antonio". The name changed to Santa Fe Springs because of the springs that were found there. The population of Santa Fe Springs grew rapidly during its early years, reaching over 100 people by 1912. However, World War I led to a decrease in population, and by 1925 the town had only 10 residents. In 1938 it became an incorporated city with a mayor-council form of government. Santa Fe Springs experienced another growth spurt during World War II, reaching a peak population of nearly 200 people in 1945. However, the war lead to a decrease in population again, this time to around 60 people by 1951. Santa Fe Springs experienced more economic decline during the 1970s and 1980s due to struggling oil prices and high unemployment rates throughout California at the time. However, recent revitalization efforts have seen an increase in population since 2007 as well as new development opportunities within downtown SantaFeSprings
