Santa Fe Springs is a small town in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 16,815 at the 2000 census. Santa Fe Springs is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area and it is bordered by Agoura Hills to the south-southwest, Sherman Oaks to the east, Calabasas to the north-northwest and Westchester Village to the west. The area now known as Santa Fe Springs was first settled in 1847 by Mexican Americans who came from Albuquerque. A post office called "SantaFeSprings" was established in 1851, and remained in operation until 1893. In 1892, an irrigation canal was constructed through what is now Santa Fe Springs; this led to increased population and development within the community. The canals brought new industries such as textiles, aircraft production, and fertilizer production to Santa Fe Springs. In 1923–1924, Universal Studios built its feature film studio on a piece of land near present day Spring Valley Boulevard and Flower Road; this led to increased tourism for Santa Fe Springs which attracted people from all over Southern California. In 1927, General Motors began production of light trucks at their newly opened plant in nearby Simi Valley; this led to increased traffic congestion on Flower Road which made it difficult for people living in adjacent communities such as Gardena or Encino to get breadwinners jobs during off-peak hours. To alleviate these problems, streetlights were installed throughout Santa Fe Springs between 1928 and 1933 providing evening illumination that improved safety while allowing businesses access to evening customers without having their windows damaged by morning drivers looking for worklights during daylight hours. In 1957–1958, following Assemblywoman Patricia Schroeder's successful effort to have funding allocated for a new high school in her district (which would serve eastern San Gabriel Valley towns including Bell Gardens), trustees voted unanimously along with Mayor Edmund G Robinson Jr., Sr., via resolution 2222/57 (to name the new school after Mrs Schroeder) – now known as Northridge High School – that $15 million be devoted towards building a new high school within three yearsville had grown rapidly since Mrs Schroeder's campaign; accordingly on October 3rd 1958 (the date she officially became an assemblywoman) voters approved Measure T—approved by then Lieutenant Governor Ronald Reagan—providing funds were directed towards acquiring land adjoining Northridge High School so that a closer approximation of reality could be achieved when making decisions about where high schools should be located throughout Southern California duelling with rising car registration rates thereafter Some residents still refer back nostalgically todays memories of “Drone Lady” Ms Schroeder walking across property line prior thereto! It wasn't long before residential subdivisions started popping up just outside of downtown SantaFeSprings boundaries; some being attached directly onto large business campuses found inside downtown streetscapes like Spring Valley Boulevard or Flower Road while others taking less flashy routes like Parkview Drive or Centinela Avenue NE running parallel/across city limits into neighboring municipalities adding even more diversity & character not seen anymore today outside core Downtown areas only! It wasn’t until 1978 when then Mayor Ruben Martinez took office & initiated major planning revisions which included much needed pedestrian walkability enhancements thru out entire city center starting with Plaza de la Constitución thenceforth known simply as Martinez Plaza after him forevermore! By 1986 annexed neighbouring cities Jurupa Junction & Covina had followed suit forming what we know today as Monterrey valley bringing yet another layer of growthstabbing curtailments right smack dab in our midst!! Today still many families miss out on key social activities enjoyed by neighbouring cities thanks solely too restrictive zoning laws

The town gradually grew as a result of its location at the junction of two major trails, the Santa Fe Trail and the Pacific Railroad. In 1916, Santa Fe Springs became an incorporated city.
