Santa Fe Springs, California is an enclave of Southern California located within the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County. It straddles the border of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The population was 54,617 at the 2010 census, up from 42,815 at the 2000 census. Santa Fe Springs began to form as a result of waves of European-American immigrants settling in the area in the early 20th century. The first Europeans to arrive were Italian laborers working on a rail line across Menifee Canyon from Anaheim Hills to Burbank. On December 6, 1907, George Ayer bought 1/4 mile (0.8 km) northeast of present day Santa Fe Springs fromdate unknown for $1 cash and erected a small adobe cabin known as "Ayer's Cabin". In 1912 he subdivided his land into 3 lots and built 2 other adobes: "Goudreau" and "Lopez". These buildings became known as "The Goudreau Villa" and "The Lopez Villa", respectively. By 1915 there were 5 colonists living in this area: George Ayer, John Goudreau (the son of George Ayer), Florence Lopez-Reyes (the daughter of Lopez), Arthur Pfeffer (a German immigrant who had come over with his family when they left Germany via ship in 1890), Harry Wallis (from Rhode Island) and Ernest Haggerty (from New York). These settlers continued to grow crops, build homes and raise families until World War II when most residents moved away for military service or because their hometowns changed hands during that war or its aftermath. In 1943 local resident Harry Wallis founded what would become Western Electric Company on October 15th after buying 11 acres east of Pico Boulevard from Josef Joffe; part of which he donated back to the community free of charge following Joffe's death in 1942 after years leading telephone companies in Southern California. In 1946 Western Electric merged with American Telephone & Telegraph Company forming BellSouth which continues headquartered here today descendant subsidiaries including AT&T Wireless Communications Corporation - home to America's first wireless network - Time Warner Cable - one of North America's largest telecommunications providers - Comcast - owner/operator NBCUniversal - Walt Disney World Resort & Spa - monorail system serving both downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood Park

Today, Santa Fe Springs is a vibrant community that continues to enjoy strong growth thanks to its diverse attractions including its excellent shopping options, great schools, earthquakes-resistant infrastructure, and easy access to major highways. The city has also worked hard to make sure that it remains open and welcoming to all residents; indeed, recent efforts have seen the annexation of several more nearby neighborhoods making SantaFe Springs one of the most densely populated cities in Central California!
