Santa Fe Springs is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Los Angeles. Santa Fe Springs was established in 1892 as a small community on the banks of the Arroyo Seco River near what is now Warner Bros. Ranch and Dynamic Film Laboratories. In 1916, it became an incorporated town. The name "Santa Fe Springs" comes from Spanish words meaning "holy places." The first store in Santa Fe Springs opened in 1892 by Jorgen Wiens and his brother-in-law, Jacob Hechtman. By 1893 there were six stores in the city. In 1916, when it became an incorporated town, Santa Fe Springs had 12 businesses including two hospitals and four grocery stores employing 150 people during its peak years of business activity (1920 to 1924). In 1925, Hoot Gibson opened his first movie theater in Santa Fe Springs called The Hollywood Majestic which would become one of Southern California's most popular entertainment venues for over 60 years until it closed its doors in 1984 due to financial difficulty. Other early film exhibitors included RKO Radio Pictures (1926), Paramount Pictures (1929), MGM/UA International Pictures (1930), Fox Movietone (1931), Republic Pictures (1932) and ultimately Universal Studios who built their own screen palace adjacent to City Hall that would serve as their main corporate headquarters until 1957 when they moved into their current facility on Olive Avenue across from Powerhouse Park which also serves as their primary training ground for cast members of their feature films productions up until recently culminating with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom where most all major production elements took place here including director Colin Trevorrow's final test footage editing suite on October 25th 2019 before beginning post-production on January 20th 2020; this set within walls once used by actual sets for filming miniatures etc.) One notable resident through the decades was legendary actor Bing Crosby who resided at 7605 Lankershim Blvd., just north of City Hall from 1951-1968 after moving out of his multi million dollar home at 1701 Vine Street which he shared with opposite number Eleanor Roosevelt; later he moved back into his original home but continued to reside there intermittently until his death in 2018 having suffered various health problems over time including Parkinson's disease since 1975 despite being able to keep himself active both mentally and physically by participating fully in many aspects OF civic life throughout Los Angeles County both inside AND outside CITY hall ) .
