Santa Fe Springs is located on U.S Route 99 and State Route 79 near Yosemite National Park. The first Europeans to visit Santa Fe Springs were the Spanish in 1823 when they founded Springerville on Rancho San Marcos de la Gorce y Castilla (now part of Antioch). In 1846 Mexican settlers established the village of Placerville on Rancho Laguna Seca southeast of Santa Fe Springs. In 1853, John Cranch bought Rancho Chorro from Manuel Nieto for $150 payable over 10 years. By 1870 there were 375 residents living in SantaFeSprings with a school and post office. When Congress passed an act authorizing President Franklin D. Roosevelt to build the Los Angeles-San Bernardino Railroad through Kern County in 1938, communities along its route began to develop rapidly including SantaFeSprings. The towns of Porterville and Lancaster became leading centers for garment production during World War II; other industries included agriculture (poultry), automotive manufacturing (Ford automobiles), and medical technology (stereoscopes and radios). After the war ended, many businesses closed or merged while others moved away as suburban housing developments began to grow around schools and shopping malls built near highways such as I-5 and US 101 throughout Kern County

The City Beautiful has since attracted many high-end residents and businesses who have helped keep downtownSantaFeSprings vibrant and economically prosperous despite persistent challenges from crime and neglect. Today, Santa Fe Springs is one of California's largest cities with over 100,000 residents living within its boundaries. It remains an important cultural center for the region thanks to its rich history and active community spirit. However, in 1949 the city reformed itself and regained its former prosperity.
