Today, Targetshooting is still an enjoyed activity enjoyed by many people from all walks of life in Santa Cruz and throughout California. The original mission buildings still stand today: The Old Mission Church is a jigsaw puzzle of beautifully carved woodwork dating back to 1848; and San Lorenzo Chapel dates back to 1865. Today’s village began as one small farmstead after another were developed around it over time; until finally all but three of them have been demolished for building or commercial purposes – only East Cliff remains standing as an agricultural oasis today surrounded by high-density housing developments which are also home to schools, businesses and churches. Santa Cruz is known for its scenic hills including Half Moon Bay, Pico del Rey Peninsula, Cascais Beach and Isla Nublar which offer stunning views of both the Pacific Ocean and mountain ranges beyond. The city experienced rapid growth during the 19th century due to its location at the intersection of two main trade routes: The Central Pacific Railway (later known as Amtrak) traveled through Santa Cruz on its way to San Francisco and points east; and gold seekers looking for a shortcut to riches discovered Santa Cruz during this time. One early resident, Humboldt County assessor George Atherton decided that if he could find enoughGold nuggets hidden throughout the hillsides he would be able to make a fortune selling goods based on what he found! Atherton began Investigations into Gold Mines around 1850 but it wasn't until 1861 when Mining Commissioner Edward Hutton allowed him carte blanche access to any mines inside California without prior inspection because he thought it would lead to more discoveries! By 1870 there were over twenty gold mines operating in Humboldt County alone! SantaCruz enjoyed some prosperity during World War II with increased production at shipbuilding yards such as Naval Shipyard #1 where planes were built before they were moved onto carriers for combat service; however after hostilities ended plant closings followed which impacted local businesses negatively. Today many aspects of daily life are dependent upon tourism which has helped keep our economy strong while also contributing significantly to our community's culture and history!
