Despite these challenges, many people continue to live and work here because there are great opportunities for economic advancement within its limited boundaries Today'sSantaCruz is home to world-renowned universities such as UC Berkeley (founded in 1853), Stanford University (1875), UC Davis (1956), UCSB (1963) and Caltech(1966).
