Santa Clarita, CA is a small city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 82,565 at the 2010 census. It is located in the San Fernando Valley of SouthernLA. Santa Clarita is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in LA County and one of the fastest-growing areas in this region. The area that would become Santa Clarita was first settled by Chumash people about 9,000 years ago. The area became part of Rancho La Brea from 1853 to 1875 and then part of San Antonio de Padua until it was annexed by Los Angeles on November 3, 1911. In 1920, Harry Chandler bought 20 acres (8 km²) of land east of downtown Los Angeles for $10 per acre ($2 million at current prices). He named his property Santa Clarita after early Spanish Stations Santa Clara and Santiago de Compostela. Chandler developed what would become Santa Clarita into an agricultural town with fruit orchards and vineyards; he also built a school and hotel here. Streets were named after saints (such as Don Juan Street), wine grape varieties were identified (Pasadena Street being especially prolific), and businesses supplied local farmers with produce such as eggs, milk, applesauce, cheese, breadfruit trees/trees/utensils etc.. In 1928-29 a power plant began construction near present day Chavez Ravine on undeveloped Lots 7 & 8 which eventually became Chavez Boulevard; when completed its generating capacity generated enough electricity to light up entire LA county! Today’s buildings on Chavez Boulevard date back to the late 1940s when Hollywood film executives decided to move their offices away from downtown LA so they could have more privacy for pursue their careers outside of town rather than live under close watch from City Hall! In 1942 Japanese Americans living in southern California were placed into internment camps during World War II because they had been born in Japan or had lived there for longer than five years without parental permission. Many Santa Clauses served in the military during World War II including Mrs Dorothy Watts who donated her home on North Main Street to be used as barracks forinternment camp inmates starting December 1st 1941 until July 6th 1945 when she sold it back to civilian ownership due to public outcry!. After Pearl Harbor we all knew that war was coming so my husband Mr.,Sgt.,Navy veteran(WWII) Sam Iverson volunteered our home Nov 29th 1941 along side many others just like us on lot #7 south side corner west Of Hwy 101 . On Dec 2nd 1941 Gov't printed notice WAITING ON LOT TO BE SOLD SEVERAL FAMILY CEMETERY AREAS WERE PLACED NEAR MISSING MEMORIAL GARDEN ON KIRKLAND ROAD IN SANTIAGO VALLEY FOR JAPANESE AMERICAN FEMALE HOMES OF THE CHILDREN OF OUR HEROES WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR! This notice caught my eye as I walked through my neighborhood everyday ! I immediately went online ordered some flowers for my mom THANKSGIVING DAY AND BOUGHT A STICKER SO NOW MY HOUSE LOOKS AS IF IT WAS PRETTY MUCH PLACED RIGHT THERE IN THE PHOTO ! Santa Clarita is a small city in southeastern San Bernardino County, California, United States. It was incorporated on November 15, 1903. The population was 7,759 at the 2010 census. Santa Clarita is located in the San Gabriel Valley and straddles the border of Los Angeles County to the east and Riverside County to the west. The city's history begins with Paiute Chief Manuel Nieto who moved his people from eastern Arizona in 1827 to what is now Santa Clarita Valley, then known as Sinaloa Creek Township. In 1876 Mexican landowner Antonio Gomez donated two parcels of land near what is now downtown Santa Clarita for a mission school and town center called Nuestra Señora de la Conception (Our Lady of Concepción). In 1884 local citizens petitioned for incorporation as a village under the name "Santa Clarita." On July 10, 1907 voters approved incorporation by an overwhelming margin. A year later it became one of California's 102 cities when it annexed part of neighboring La Crescenta. On October 1, 1915 Santa Clarita became an independent city with its own government which kept all aspects of municipal government within its borders including water supply, schools and libraries; however annexation into La Crescenta took place on January 1, 1916. Downtown businesses were destroyed during World War II by bombing raids but re-opened after the war as a shopping district full of boutiques and department stores like Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney & Co., Macy’s Department Store and Woolworth’s Incorporated grocery store opened along Main Street between First Avenue and Alamitos Boulevard in 1946. In 1957–58 locals built three residential towers overlooking Interstate 5 allowing motorists below ground level access to award-winning shopping areas east of I-5 including Pico Boulevard NE which became known as "the Plaza" while northbound I-5 was renamed "Alamitos Boulevard". Alameda Drive between Broadway/UCLA Avenue southbound (I-5)and Main Street northbound (Alamitos Boulevard) became known as "Alamitos Blvd." before being truncated back to Alameda Drive when I-5 was reconstructed beginning in 1991. One tower remains standing today: The Regency Tower at 6351 North Hollywood Blvd.. In 1966 John Lennon filmed his song “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" inside one such building used for shot locations for that song outside this same building today on nearby Highland Park Blvd.. Boutique chains like TJ Maxx began opening up here starting around 2005 followed by high end retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue until more recently Urban Outfitters has been open here since 2007 or so depending on location also many restaurants have closed down over time but there are still quite a few left open throughout all these years including several Chinese restaurants which continue to operate despite gentrification efforts
