Today Santa Clarita remains one of Southern California's most vibrant cities with a rich history dating back to over 100 years ago when it was a small farming community surrounded by ranchlands and sand dunes characteristic of much of southern California at that time. Congress approved this request and sent cash flow to Santa Clarita through various programs such as highway construction grants and low-interest loans from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The economy improved following these funds being available; however, crime rates remain high today because of limited funding options available to improve housing or public safety infrastructure downtown or south of I-5
