Santa Clarita is a city in southern California, located about 20 miles east of Los Angeles and about 25 miles south of Anaheim. Situated on the eastern edge of the Inland Empire, Santa Clarita has a population of over 165,000 people as of 2010. The city is known for its affluent BAFTA-winning film industry and its world-famous shopping malls, which include one of the largest concentrations of Sears stores in North America. The first Europeans to visit what is now Santa Clarita were two Spanish Franciscans who sailed up the Pacific coast in 1542 looking for new land to settle. Their ships anchored off the coast on October 13th and 14th, 1542, and they surveyed what they found by landing their priests with maps and drawings. They named this area Cahuenga Point because it was near where a mountain peak was called Cahuenga Peak. In 1853, real estate developer James Irvine built his home at 5461 West Hope Street on ranchlands that he had purchased from Rancho Tejon Mexican Land Grantee George WOODS Jr.. Irvine hired architect JF Mecklenburg to make plans for his new town which would include a hospital (now Medical Center), schoolhouse (later High School), store fronts on Fourth Street between Hope and MacArthur Streets (later Town Square Shopping Center), Post Office building(now Orange County Courthouse), dairy farm buildings (now City Services Building)and other small businesses. The name “Santa Clarita” originated from early settler Mrs. Sanborn’s husband’s remark that if he could find “nice white girls living close by with no sunburn or red skin so we can put them under the tree to listen to Christmas music without getting any ideas about themselves being too exposed” then he would call his place "Santa Clarita". Mrs Sanborn suggested that maybe someone might put some trees up but no one did because there wasn't enough money available yet! So Mrs Sanborn started calling her place "Old Santa Clarity" until somebody finally got around to putting some lights under the tree! It didn't take long before people realized how good it would be when night time came out there wasn't any light coming from underneath so they thought maybe there wasn't anyone home so they went back outside an >>>>>>>>>> Lights started shining down from above!!!!!!!!! So many people were amazed at how cool it looked like santa clara actually existed!!!!!!!!

Santa Clarita, California is a small city located in Kern County, California. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. Santa Clarita became an incorporated city on January 1, 1907. It was named after Spanish explorer Gaspar de la Hoz's road trip from Monterey to Los Angeles in 1769-70. The first settlers in what is now Santa Clarita were French Catholic Missionaries who arrived in 1821 and founded the mission of Rancho San Fernando del Santa Fe (Rancho La Salle). In 1848, Separate Mexican land grants were made to José Joaquin Mora y Valdés and Antonio López de Balboa for 8,000 acres (3 km²) north of present-day Santa Clarita. On July 26 of that year General Valeriano García Moreno granted these grants to Pedro Cárdenas as part of Rancho Justicia Viejo grant #1. This area would eventually become known as Santiago Heights and contain some of Los Angeles' earliest housing developments including Vista Hermosa (now Goodyear Plaza). Santiago Heights was also home to one of the most important earlyandiadrial commercial centers in Southern California when it opened its doors on October 15th 1887 with the opening of The Storefront on Pacific Coast Highway by J. Parnell Wright & Sons Ltd.. Today this building still stands prominently on Santiago Heights Boulevard just west of Highland Avenue and across from Rheingold’s Department Store which closed its doors in 2000 but has been preserved as a historic landmark since then. In 1912 Elihu Root opened his famous Save-the-Children store here which began the modern food industry in Southern California with investigations into ways to provide affordable food for children everywhere through distribution networks like those established today by Walmart Inc., Costco Wholesale Corporation, Safeway Inc., Kroger Co., Pep Boys/Dairy Queen etc.). From 1914 until his death ten years later he directed Save the Children USA from his home at 6001 Hollywood Blvd.. The store continued operations until it merged with Sam’s Club International effective April 25th 1987 becoming Sam’s Club North America before being renamed again as Sam’s Clubs Worldwide effective February 14th 2002. Heather Mac Donald writes about this era: "Sam's Clubs had something special going for it: Not only did they offer quality merchandise at bargain prices; they also helped popularize supermarkets around the world."
Santa Clarita Valley is a valley located in the Southern California region. It is bordered by Orange County to the east, Kern County to the west, and Ventura County to the north. The Santa Clarita Valley was named for Spanish explorer Antonio de la Hoz who explored it in 1769. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Santa Clarita Valley was made by Father Junipero Serra in 1821. A smallpox epidemic that struck Mission San Fernando Rey in 1827 killed more than 60% of the population within two months, followed by a devastating fire that destroyed much of downtown Los Angeles in 1828. In 1832, Rancho La Brea was purchased from Jose Maria Huerta and began growing grapes for wine production. By 1848, about ninety percent of all grape fruit grown within California came from Rancho La Brea and its sister properties.
