In recent years the economy has been based largely on agriculture which employs about 60% of Santa Clarita’s workforce. A major employer is Chiquito Farms Inc., a dairy company that produces high-quality watermelons for restaurants all over Southern California; other local businesses include two beauty salons, several clothing stores and a hardware store.

The valley was home to a number of industries, including citrus fruit production, lumbering, and farming.
