[It] formed an essential link between America's industrial heartland and our ally Great Britain." In 1951 Mayor Arturo Fraga dedicated AAF Station "Granada" which became home to both the Air Defense Command's Twelfth Air Force activated there during World War II (ADC #4) until its activation at Ellington Field AFB Texas on 15 Feb 1946 due to strategic Bombing Survey changes being made then; RAF Granada turned into USAF Walnut Grove AFB CA when that base closed 9 Apr 1947 due to budget cuts associated with Strategic Air Command realignment which affected all active US fighter aircraft stationed worldwide at that time - this change followed prior directive from Joint Chiefs Marshall Bruce Rayburn while commander Ninth AF based out of El Paso TX). It became a Spanish town in 1821 after California was admitted to the United States as part of the Mexican–American War. Santa Clara became an agricultural center after the discovery of oil in 1865. The city's first post office opened in 1867. Santa Clara hosted both the 1904 and 1928 Olympic Games.
