In 1885, promoter Alpheus Stevens started promoting the relocation of Americans westward across the country in search for new land. He approached Charles Goodyear with an offer for $5 per acre (approximately $25 per lot) to be bought in sections from various Native American tribes living east of San Francisco Bay. Goodyear accepted and began buying parcels from local farmers and ranchers who donated their land near Mount Pico Boulevard and State Street. On October 12th, 1887, the first lot sold at $10 per acre (approximately $50 per lot). By 1907 there were over 1,500 residents living in Santa Barbara County with a total value of over $1 million dollars! With such success stories came problems however; not enough homes were built and many families could not afford property prices or transportation fees required for settling down on these large tracts of land! However there were also some very successful entrepreneurs like Alpheus Stevens who managed to turn around struggling communities by creating businesses like bottling water company Spring Valley Bottling Company Ltd., electric light company Western Electric Company LTD., grocery store Mayfair Grocery Inc., lumberyard King Ranch & Paper Mill Co., post office Starke General Post Office & Mail Service CO., hotel Avalon Hotel Corporation LTD.. In 1932 businessman Irving Kress agreed to sell all his holdings in Kress Rubber Company for $600 million dollars making him one of America's wealthiest men at that time! By 1957 there were only 5 people left living in Santa Barbara County with a total value less than one dollar! It wasn't until 1969 when then Mayor Don Bates announced plans to demolish most old buildings within downtown Santa Barbara so that development could begin again on more fertile ground outside the city limits! This led directly to the birth of SB Nation which now employs more than 10 thousand individuals across its five properties including sports teams such as USC Trojans football players Seamless Stadium Operations LLC./USC Men’s soccer players Memorial Stadium Operations LLC./Santa Clara University Athletics Department]), oceanfront apartments called Surfside Villas/Westshore Village (), two golf courses named La Jolla Golf Course/East Shore Golf Course (), three restaurants - Tomales Inn/Los Olivos inn (), La vieja Guerra restaurant (), SB Nation's original offices ()), interlocking garage systems complete with purple PVC pipes providing shade during summer hours,, tennis courts (the Hawk Range Tennis Center), corporate headquarters ().
