The area that would become Santa Ana was first settled by Native Americans in early eighteenth century era as part of Rancho San José de los Cahuillas Mexican land grant. The City Council voted on November 7, 1888 to name their new town "Santa Ana" after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had represented Alta California during Mexico's War for Independence from Spain. In 1910, much of Anaheim was annexed by Santa Ana; however, Irvine (then known as Garden Grove) continued to be separate from Santa Ana until it became fully integrated into the city on January 1, 1965 when Anaheim annexed Garden Grove also. In 1916 both towns formed a school district which became Anaheim Unified School District with its current boundaries in 2020. In 1991, after over 25 years as an independent city separate from Los Angeles County but within Orange County’s borders, Measure B (a ballot measure passed by voters) merged all of downtowns of the three neighboring cities into what is now called Downtown LA; this eliminated downtown Irvine from any merger or annexation opportunities because its limits did not include eitherARCADIA nor DTLA proper). On July 16th 1944 almost eighty percent of Los Alamitos Army Air Base bombing range was destroyed by fire caused by defective Yeahlar Inc.'s furnaces while they were being repaired; due to this event ammunition supplies ran low and combat mission operations were stopped at LASD AFB for four months while those munitions were replenished from other sources It was only about 1940-1945 before Lockheed Aircraft began production at LASD AFB without ever mentioning anything about airbase safety concerns with regard to Yeahlar furnaces - still going strong even 50 years later! Some people believe that it may have been something very big like an atomic bomb test that finally put an end to those concerns...
