During World War II, Brownells gun works located on North Main Street produced replica firearms for military customers such as Hollywood movie stars like Humphrey Bogart and Marilyn Monroe. These weapons were made from steel or plastic materials because there wasn't enough metal available to build actual guns during World War II. In 1978, due to increased production of replica firearms at Brownells gun works, the old ammunition plant on First Street closed down completely; all traces of its past have since been eliminated except for a few pieces of machinery still standing today near First Street and Orange Avenue.

In 1869, a cannonball killed one man and wounded three others while firing off rounds from its mount at Alisal Barracks east of downtownSanta Ana. That same year saw another cannonball fire incident when it hit a house near Spring Street and North Main Avenue; no damage was done but there were several scare tactics involving children who responded by running away when they heard gunshots coming from that area In 1875, Mayor John Sutter ordered construction began onipulated with increasing demand for cartridges due to various complaints about problem shooters (gunfighters) operating around town during fairs and other events . Work continued until 1889 when most all equipment necessary for producing munitions had been delivered by order of Mayor Sutter himself; however some munitions still remained unproduced because local manufacturers could not produce enough bullets or cases fit for export

The first post office in what is now Santa Ana was established in 1839. The town was named after General José Joaquín de Alvarado, who fought against Mexican forces at the Battle of Palo Alto on October 17,1846.
