In 1827, John Hargrave patented an airgun that he called the “Hargrave Rifle.” The rifle was designed to be used with a hand-held shotgun shell which fired through a tube inserted into the barrel. It was very inaccurate but quickly became popular due to its simplicity and ease of use. In 1872, Don Ahern developed a new type of airgun known as the Ahern Gun. This gun was based on the design of the earlier Hargrave Rifle and featured a metal breech instead of a shotgun shell tube. The gun was more accurate than any other type and soon became very popular among hunters and shooters throughout California. By 1907, there were over 100 registered Airguns in Santa Ana alone! During World War II, Santa Ana became one of the most important centers for firearms manufacturing in Southern California because it produced many weapons for both military and police use. Airguns continued to be produced here until around 1970 when they were phased out in favor of more modern technologies. today, some old airguns still remain collectable examples as they are often quite rare indeed!

In 1821, Governor Manuel Nieto granted Rancho Santiago de la Costa to José Antonio Yorba who named it after Saint Anne, venerated by Catholics as patroness of healing Hands and homes for the aged. On October 14, 1825, Don Miguel Baca purchased 2 square miles (5 km²) of what would become downtown Santa Ana from José Antonio Yorba for $2,500 (). On November 3rd 1850, Mexican General Rafael Videla ordered U.S.-Mexican forces under Lieutenant Colonel James Purdy to retake Los Angeles from Mexican troops under Captain Fernando Ruiz y Costilla; they failed due to bad weather and lack of supplies.. On January 1st 1861 Californios placed an ad in The Bee newspaper seeking settlers near Monterey Bay willing to establish a new Colony on "the borders" between Sonoma County (north) and Ventura County (south). Applies open only to Men who are over 21 years old with 4 acres or more freehold land,...It stated that "...if you can bring with you your wife & children...no matter how many we may have...we will be very glad to have them." Because there were no women available for this type of lifestyle during these days there must have been some malevolence involved because applications were not accepted until February 6th 1861! A second advertisement appeared just two weeks later stating that"...if you can find a wife or mother who will take care of 6 children while living with you she will be very grateful." There must have been some other factor at work because no families moved into this area until 1863 when Father Jiron opened the first Catholic school in Anaheim which became known as La Purísima Concepción School which served both local civilian and military populations as well as providing education forpoor children before statehood in 1911 completely closed all private schools statewide except those operated by religious orders such as the Jesuits run by Father Jiron himself! Additional stores were started up around town like Fillmore's store on State Street soon followed by Henschel's grocery on Broadway then Smith & Wesson on December 12th 1860 where John Fenton began selling pistols! This area today known as SoDo was mostly farmland with scattered houses built between 1865-1870s when San Pedro Avenue was extended from east side of City Hall Roadogenically down so business could move closer! Finally Alvarado’s Drugstore came about in 1892!!! In 1868 another ad appeared looking for men interested in farming six square miles stretching along present day US Route 101 north from Presentation Road northeastward including parts now within neighboring Brea Hills Neighborhoods...This ad specified that men had "to bring their wives & children too" because "No child born here without parents living here can be called American." The same year saw another advertisement looking for men interested in mining gold prospects near Warner Springs northeast corner Of SR 24 & I-5 However no ads appear until 1870 when man applying called himself George Eastman decided he wanted his own place name!! After months of research he settled on naming his new settlement after MountSaintJohnUSVI but never actually moved there!!! In 1873 an article announcing grants given out for townships located within Rancho Santiago de la Costa mentioned that "...Santa ana has received notice from Congress relative thereto....and having erected upon its public grounds an office prepared sumptuously circumstanced [sic] I am liberal enough towards it". This probably indicates congressional recognition that eventually downtown Santa Anna would become part of Orange County

In 1872, when Don Francisco Palomo took over managing Mission San Fernando Rey de la Laguna from his father-in-law Juan Bautista Quesada y Urdialdez, he renamed it Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe para honor the Mexican martyrdom saint whose feast day was November 3.
