Until the early 20th century, rifles and shotguns were designed primarily for hunting. However, handguns began to be developed as firearms in this era as well. At first, handguns were simply pistols with different barrels. However, over time, handgun barrel designs became more standardized and more effective in shooting. One of the earliest handgun barrel designs was the Starr rifle barrel which featured a bore that was 4 inches in diameter. The success of this design led to other handgun barrel designs being created including the Smith and Wesson revolver barrel which featured a bore that was 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The company also had a leather division which made revolvers and other leather goods. In 1999, Winchester-Sanges Corporation merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Rand Corporation. This company manufactures firearms through several divisions including handguns (Remington-Marlin), shotguns (Remington-Walker) and reloading supplies (Heilbrunn Reloading Supply Co.). Sanger is a city in Sonoma County, California, United States. It is the county seat of Sonoma and has a population of around 118,000. The name "Sanger" comes from the Spanish word for "salvage." Sanger was founded by George C. Smith in 1874 as a small trading post on what is now the east side of town. In 1902, Sanger became an incorporated municipality with its own government and services. In 1978, it merged with nearby Napa to form the new city of Napa Valley. The City of Sanger celebrated its centennial in 2018. A variety of events were held throughout the year including a centennial parade down main Street and special fireworks displays at night downtown.
