After disembarking his troops at Fort Point on December 16th 1861 he came ashore with about 50 men and began building a stockade around present-day downtownSanger which became known as invasionland due to its strategic location midway between Mission Bay inSan Francisco and Golden Gate Park east of San Francisco Gate (then called Yerba Buena Cove). There were reports that he also pillaged some small villages along his route as he passed through them but no concrete evidence exists to support these claims other than anecdotal evidence or rumor until 1862 when one of his captains named Pacheco reported seeing munitions crates buried among piles of vegetation near today's Waterfront District park off Hyde Street & First Avenue). On January 8th 1863 a detachment from Company E 9th Ulysses S Grant's 1st Corps arrived at Fort Point - part of General George McClellan's Army of Northern Mexico - under command of Colonel John B Stuart who had just replaced Captain Pacheco Allduring 1862 many people believed that gold could be found south of Stockton so another party led by Captain James Marshall went looking for it in October 1862 but failed to find any gold In 1865 Jno[n] A[ndrew] Smith opened up a log cabin restaurant here called Smith’s Landing which became popular with soldiers stationed here during World War II because there was no food available closer than Camp Roberts across the bay from where they were quartered On November 20th 1906 Clarence Stone opened up Stone’s store #1 adjacent to what is now City Hall plaza opposite City Hall Annex Building) The store served as a stopping point for wagonloads of fresh produce brought into town by farmers driving their wagons down State Route 66 allthe way from central California In 1907 Dr.[obert] Loeb organized an agricultural show at Alameda Agricultural Fairgrounds which drew more than 10,000 visitors including figures such as President Theodore Roosevelt who toured with local bankers It was seen as an opportunity by growers to exhibit their crops before buyers from other parts of the state When prohibition laws were passed in 1919 they closed most stores within 5 miles (8 km) radius leaving only Stone’s Store open until 1933 when it closed again due to vandalism By 1933 most business had moved out west so much so that Stone decided not renew his lease And finally The store burned down on May 15th 1934 having lasted less than a year

In 1853, Captain John Crain discovered oil shale near present day Sanger while exploring for petroleum resources in eastern Kern County; he named it Healdsburg after himself and laid claim to the land around modern-day Healdsburg then called Carquinez Strait (now known as Petaluma Bay). The discovery led to further development at Healdsburg with an influx of settlers including Jepson Barnes who built Barnes & Son grocery stores and other businesses in what is now downtown Healdsburg before moving his operations across Highway 101 into what became today's North Park neighborhood west of downtown Healdsburg. By 1902 he had developed much beyond what are today recognizable buildings at Second Street and Albany Drive: Barnes Place still stands as one physical remnant from that early days although most recent development has taken place around First Street which runs concurrently with Albany Drive eastward towards Interstate 5; eventually all but one block south were demolished in 1962 when I-5 was extended through the town limits concurrent with new highway construction just north of Second Street between Broadway and Albany Drive; current business districts extending southeast along Highways 99W (Albany Drive) and 99E (First Street) provide most recent evidence that what once constituted a bustling commercial center once consisted primarily of residences clustered together along streets adjacent to arterial highways serving local markets rather than any significant commercial infrastructure outside those immediate surroundings On October 15, 1860 Wm Fenton established a post office at Sanger with mail received from Los Angeles via wagon road overland from Yreka; mail continued arriving by stagecoach until 1865 when stage service became available through Union Pacific Railroad tracks running parallel to Main Street northwest from where they crossed Canadian River into Sacramento County pastpresent day Placerville thence downriver past Martinez Lake into Butte County In 1870 Wm Fenton organized a Methodist Episcopal Church which later merged with another church organization founded by him leading to incorporation as an incorporated city within four years It wasn't until 1909 that city services were provided by City Marshal Harry Elam after efforts failed beginning in 1893 during Mayor Charles Burt's administration culminating unsuccessfully with annexation efforts beginning by Republican Mayor Edward Rowe seeking revenge upon Burt following publication during his term "Dirty Dozen" listing 12 civic wrongs corrected during Rowe's watch including housing projects funded by public money given preferential treatment over others not only within city limits but also outside them while mayor
Sanger was founded in 1879 by George C. Sanger and his wife, Anna L. Sanger. The couple started a cotton plantation in the area that is now Sacramento County. In 1881, they moved their slaves to what is now El Sobrante, California and began to grow crops. They also built a home there. In 1885, they met Charles Eliot Norton who became their friend and mentor. In 1886, they published an article about racial integration in the United States in the Atlantic Monthly magazine. This caused a stir and led to their being banned from publishing for six months by J. Edgar Hoover's FBI
