The first shooters in San Ramon, California used traditional shooting glasses. A group of men and women who decided to form the Riflemen’s Protective League in 1892 began using shooting glasses as protection from the sun and other hazards. One of their early members was Capt. At that time, NSSF had jurisdiction over all pistol ranges within 2 miles of a school or playground without special permission from local officials; rifle ranges were managed by individual clubs and companies under control of NRA membership only. During mining days, miners would bring their claims through San Ramon and establish their homes there until they could sell them off or build new mines. Today, many businesses are based in San Ramon - including GEICO Insurance Company and Wells Fargo Bank - because of its plentiful natural resources: oil, gas, water, furriers and other industry
In 1849, the American Civil War ended with General Ulysses S. Grant’s victory at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. California was won by the Union, and as a result, San Ramon became part of the United States. The town started to flourish after entrepreneurs founded businesses such as an ice cream parlor and a bakery. In 1898, San Ramon became a city when it annexed Rancho de las Pulgas, which included parts of present-day Hayward and Livermore Valleys.
