San Ramon is a small town in northern California, located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The population was 22,391 at the 2010 census. It is part of Greater San Francisco. As a result of this inflationary situation, business owners closed their stores or took other measures to reduce costs including paying employees below market rates (a practice still common today). However, despite these difficulties many residents prospered because they could sell what they produced directly to consumers or through local cooperatives. During World War II much of downtown was destroyed by bombing raids but parts such as The Bank building survive as a unique example of post-war architecture in California. It was not until 1840 when armor began being developed specifically for firearms use and it began being called “firearm armor” by then-Army General Sir Garnet Wolseley. A combined U.S.-South Korea force fought for hours against a numerically superior North Koreans before withdrawing under heavy fire from an overlook located near Adobe Walls. Another important event to occur in San Ramon was when ammunition supplies ran low during World War II and General George Custer's army besieged Fort Stockton. After days of fighting, Custer's force arrived at San Ramon with great news that they had successfully withdrawn his army without loss.
The first Europeans to explore the area that is now San Ramon were Spanish settlers in 1769. A mission was established here in 1821, and a town was founded in 1847. The original land for the town was purchased from Diego de Almagro, who had discovered it during his explorations of California. The name San Ramon came about because of its proximity to the Rancho San Ramon, which belonged to Juan Bautista de Anza.
