With all this growth came increased traffic congestion along main streets which has caused sidewalks to become crowded with people walking their dogs or taking children for walks during rush hour - none of which would have been possible even a few decades ago without some excellent transportation solutions like BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), Muni Metro (Muni Subway), Caltrain (CalTrain) and ACE bus service that connect our city center with other nearby towns and cities!

The first post office in San Ramon opened in 1868 and was called Manchester Station; it closed in 1870 because of lack of customers. The first school opened in 1871 at 129th Street and Mission Road. That school closed due to low enrollment but reopened again in 1886 under the name Monterey School District No. 1 (later renamed Peninsula School District). In 1890, an act to create Contra Costa County was passed by the state legislature; this act created all new counties within California except Alameda and Marin which were already organized as separate counties. As part of this Act, there was also created a new township within Contra Costa County - Markedbrook Township - which would be home to most of the growth for San Ramon over time including development along Highway 24/Newark Avenue leading into town center along Plaza de la Constitución Boulevard In 1906, after years of annexation by neighboring cities – Pleasant Hill (1896), Richmond (1901), Concord (1905), Walnut Creek (1909), Dublin (1910) –SanRamón became one municipality with its own government consisting only of a Mayor/Citizen’s Council with authority over schools, police & fire departments etc., plus streets & parks etc.; annexed by other towns through special legislation during that year following ratification by voters via referendum….Today's downtown area around Plaza de la Constitución Boulevard offers excellent evidence that business activity continued unabated despite prohibition efforts throughout much OFSAN RAMON during Prohibition….. During World War II many businesses came outof hiding to contribute their resources towards war effort such as CFI Paper Co./Plymouth Aircraft Corp., Kaiser Aluminum Products Inc., Ford Motor Company plants hereabouts……In 1946 local historian Don Lightfoot published “A History Of Our Town: A Comprehensive Overview Of The Development And History Of SanRamón City” which remains our definitive source for historical information about our early years Many current residents who grew up during those days can still vividly remember some key points about their childhood including coming down Main Street right before lunchtime each day to buy newspapers from Mrs Wells right across from today's First Baptist Church building back then known as "The Old Courthouse"
