After years of construction,missionaries arrived here on September 24th1839 with Father Junípero Serra as their leader. They built an adobe chapel which still stands today (the present day Pueblo Mayor building). A larger Spanish mission would be built here but it burned down in 1847 during Adobe Creek Flood which destroyed most of downtown San Rafael including mission buildings and archives including many religious artifacts such as paintings and sculptures that remain today! In 1850, Don Miguel Luna purchased 3 acres near where the current Market Street intersection stands from Antonio Bandera who had acquired it from Mission Dolores vecina following its evacuation during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). On July 8th 1860, Don Miguel Luna sold another tract of land east of Interstate 580 to Gideon Welles for $10 per acre ($272 total) putting an end to speculation about his purchase! This made wellesley one of only two Californians ever to own land west of I-580! Don Miguel Luna also donated 5 acres south of Martinez Street between Waller Boulevard and Castro Valley Roads to create what is now North Park neighborhood! North Park took form after residents raised money for parkland from landowners within their boundaries! By 1880 however, nearly all agricultural land within city limits had been annexed by Marin County so much progress had been made since 1840 that a new town hall was recommended for incorporation but no action was taken until 1886 when voters passed an ordinance establishing numbered streets within town limits instead! A post office called "Rancho Santa Rosa"alias "Pueblo Mayor"was established at this location on December 15th 1887 under British rule (after Mexico's Revolution). On January 1st 1888, US citizens became eligible to receive mail through US Mail service so this name change came into effect effective February 25th 1988 when ZIP code 94923 became standard! The original buildings on Market St NW still stand today (although they are not used currently because they are too cold!). On July 13rd 1911 amendments were approved providing fire protection services for unincorporated areas outside city limits rider #2; names changed again on October 26th 1916 due to World War I;#3 provided ambulance services; #4 added police services; finally #5 designated schools within city limits
