The community quickly developed into a busy port for goods arriving from all over Northern California via sea, railroads, and steamships. During World War II many local farmers assisted in raising food for military purposes throughout North America; particularly during the war effort when crop production soared due to good soil conditions caused by heavy rains following Cyclone Tracy in 1977 In 1951, SAN RAFAEL MIDDLE SCHOOL opened its doors to students from neighboring Tiburon through eighth grade (grades 9-12). In 1968, annexation of Millbrae completed a process that began with the annexation of part of Rancho Cucamonga in 1964.
