San Pablo is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 24,814 at the 2010 census. The city was founded on July 4, 1848 by Americus Wright and his wife Anna Maria Wright as a small farming town named San Pablo Bayly. It became an incorporated town on January 15, 1875. In 1850 they moved to their current location on Richardson Street between Third and Fourth Streets where they continued to operate a small farm until1864 when they sold it to José María Escobar y Costilla who turned it into an agricultural village called Concepción de las Pulgas. He laid out the present-day streetscape including Market Street (now part of University Avenue), Second Street (now Webster Avenue), Fourth Street (now Alma Mater Road), Buchanan Avenue (now Hearst Avenue) and Arroyo Drive which connected many of the homes that he built along Richardson Street. ThisVillage had its own school, church, post office, grocery store etc... As this Village grew there were also plans made to incorporate it into Hayward but these plans never came to fruition due to cost reasons only later being reborn as the City of San Pablo when Escobar died leaving behind 1 million dollars worth of assets within the city limits! In 1865 American Civil War veteran Ezra Taft settled near what is now Powell’s Lake adjacent to present day Taft Park before moving southward in search of land for himself some 5 miles north alongpresent day Burdick Road towards Mount Diablo where he found grazing land suitable for ranching purposes However all this land failed to pan out so Taft returned home via missions down West coast until he finally secured title deeds from Rancho Tiburon Mexican Land Grant Association lands extending back 350 miles east from Monterey Peninsula dating back over two centuries! From here starting in 1870 construction began throughout much of eastern Contra Costa County on hundreds if not thousandsof dwellings eventually resulting in more than 7 thousand residences within just fivesquare blocks bounded by SecondStreetnorthwestonFirstStreetsouthwestonAuroraRoadsandMount Diabloroad
