The first gun target in San Pablo was a 40 caliber cannonball. The first shooting took place on October 3rd, 1851. The cannons in the Presidio were not perfect, so some practice was needed to get good at hitting them. In 1862, a rifle range opened up on Market Street and it became very popular for target shooting. There were also shotguns and pistols allowed at the range from then on. On October 8th of that year, the U.S. Army posted a notice asking anyone who wanted to shootguns to come to the range located at 325 Market Street from 9 am-1 pm for instruction and fun!

The city of San Pablo was founded in 1836 by Francisco Alvarado and his wife, Mariátegui. The name San Pablo is Spanish for "San Pedro." The city's first post office was opened in 1837. In 1840, the City of San Pablo became part of the Mexican state of Baja California.
