The name "San Pablo" was given to the site by Mariano Vallejo, who named it after his father-in-law, Pedro de Garza y Tejeda. In 1894, the city changed its name to Antioch because of objections from San Pablo residents who felt that their town was already called Antioch. In 1906, after being merged withameda County and becoming a borough, Antioch changed its name again to Fremont because of opposition from other local municipalities within Contra Costa County that wanted their own namesakes - Fremont had been chosen as a namesake for the newly created county seat at Angel Island. After some more debate among government officials over which name should be used for Fremont proper and Antioch Township (the easternmost township in Contra Costa), it was decided that both names would be used together and remain unchanged until 1951 when they were each named as part of separate cities under new laws passed by Congress following World War II: When these cities were reestablished as single entities following statehood in 1912 they retained their respective names; however, when Fremont incorporated as a city in 1951 it reverted back to its original form: "Fremont". In 1973 an annex became independent bearing the sameName as neighboring Hayward; this annexation led to another rename change when Hayward annexed parts of nearby Lafayette on November 30th 1977 changing its name once again to San Pablo City Limits effective January 1st 1978. Today there are several restaurants and bars located near downtown along Valencia Street between Market/Second Streets (just east of Interstate 80) and State Street just south of BART's Berryessa Station on MacArthur Boulevard between Masonic Drive & Peralta Avenue with nightlife options also available in unincorporated areas around town such as Coyote Hills Rancho Park northwest of downtown (accessible off I-80 exit 137), Larkspur Farms northeast off I-580 exit 128A which borders Pleasanton's Crystal Springs Lake Golf Course & community swimming pool complex southeast off I-880 exit 113B

A Brief History of San Pablo, California San Pablo is a small town in Northern California. It was founded on December 14, 1849 by brothers Francisco and José Gomez as part of the Rancho Santa Clara de Atascadero Mexican land grant. The townsite had been used for grazing and farming since the 1860s. In 1876, San Pablo became an agricultural town when the United States Railroad built a line through its territory. The railroad allowed for more intensive agriculture, which led to increased population and development in San Pablo over time. The first post office was established in 1876, and the first store opened in 1881. By 1905, there were four businesses in San Pablo - two stores (Jenny's grocery store and Wagon Wheel), one bakery (Cafeteria Grains), and one hotel (the Hotel del Norte). By 1915, there were twelve businesses with a population of 400 residents. 2) The growth of industry: Due to the railroads arrival into town, San Pablo began experiencing significant industrial development starting around 1910-1920 with the construction of breweries such as Pacific Gas & Electric Company's Pacific Refining Works and Wells Fargo Bank's First National Banking Company Building located at 7th Street SW between 4th Avenue SW and 5th Avenue SW across from what is now known as BART Station #1 Pioneer Square . These industrial developments led to new jobs for locals as well as out-of-towners; however they did not necessarily create much economic opportunity or wealth within San Pablo itself
In 1847, the first post office was established on San Pablo. The town would later become a major center for California gold mining and commerce. By 1868, the town had more than 1,000 residents. The population continued to grow throughout the 19th century as new mines were opened in San Pablo County. In 1909, San Pablo became an incorporated city with a population of over 100,000 people. San Pablo is now a leading community in Silicon Valley and one of the most popular tourist destinations in California.
