The original downtown area that today includes most of High Street was developed between 1870 and 1890 during an time when giant warehouses were built along High Street in response to burgeoning maritime trade with Asia and Europe. Today, City Hall is located within high-rise buildings surrounding Pescadero cove which has been called Japan Shoreline until recently due to their importation of large quantities of Japanese celery - worth more than $20 million annually - from Humboldt County during fall planting season

The war ended on September 2nd 1945 with Japan's surrender at Japan's Hiroshima Peninsula

In 1887, San Mateo County was formed from portions of Santa Clara County. In 1898, San Mateo also became part of Alameda County.
