San Mateo is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 105,155 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Silicon Valley and is one of the most affluent cities in California. In 1851–52, Antonio Vallejo surveyed part of what is now Redwood City including what became San Mateo County; he also filed an official naming request with the US government which would result in the town's current name being given: San Mateo—probably derived from Spanish "santo" (holy) + "mate" (town). The first post office opened in 1858 under the name of Belmont before its current name was chosen in 1912 after another early pioneer, William Waring Ewing (1847–1924). On October 15, 1850, Don Pedro Martinez y Ornelas purchased Rancho Santa Clara from Jose Maria Sanchez for $10 per acre ($282/acre today). After becoming president of Mexico City over California's fledgling statehood movement during disturbances following Mexican independence there began on April 16th 1850 by order of Emperor Agustín Manuel Filiberto Padres Reyes 3rd Viscount Balboa Young Men bravely volunteered their services to protect Californian citizens during a period when Mexicans were not allowed within 100 miles (160 km) of any county seat inside or outside Mexico proper without prior written consent from both sets of government officials known as Justicia y Justicia – English Justice & Justice. Camilo Cienfuegos served as Sheriff for Contra Costa County beginning July 1st 1850 until his recall due to lack of funds on December 10th 1850 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena who placed him under suspension pending investigation into charges against him arising out of election fraud committed by friends & acquaintances #Justiciarocket #WaterLily

The first gun magazine was created in 1847 by Daniel Webster in Boston, Massachusetts. Webster designed and manufactured the first handgun magazine, called The Rifleman’s Journal (TRJ). The TRJ was a three-page publication that offered tips on how to shoot pistols and rifles effectively. It also featured artwork and articles about shooting sports including Pistol Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Archery Shooting, etc. In 1853 Charles Eames published an article entitled “A Scheme for Manufacturing Gun Magazines” in Harper’s Ferry Herald.[1] Eames proposed using metal plates to create a flexible magazine that could be easily inserted intoguns without breaking them open. His proposal was eventually adopted bygun manufacturers as the standard design for firearm magazines today. During World War II several attempts were made to develop an effective magazine system for artillery munitions purposes known as “The Gasholder System”[2]. However, no successful prototypewas developed during the war period

When Europeans arrived in San Francisco Bay in 1776, they were met with a strange sight. The area that is now San Mateo County was part of the Ohlone Nation, which lived on the mainland. The Ohlones had a complex system of social organization, and their villages were scattered throughout the bay. The first European to explore what is now San Mateo County was Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà, who named it Santa Cruz de la Trinchera (Saint Francis' Cross). In 1821, Ygnacio Torres y Arellano founded the town of Redwood City on land that he purchased from the Alta California Company. The new settlement grew rapidly and by 1842 had a population of 575 people. In 1851, when Mexico gained independence from Spain, San Francisco became part of Mexican territory under Lieutenant Governor José Joaquín Herrera. On July 6, 1852, at 4 p.m., Mexican troops burned down the American Mission at Mount Diablo while Indian slaves were inside; this event is considered to be the start of Mexico's War for Independence (1846-48). In 1850–51 there were also several other skirmishes between Californios and Mexicans during this time period as well as some raids by both sides into each other's territories
The area now known as San Mateo County was originally part of the California Republic, a self-governing state that existed from 1849 to 1850. The United States acquired California in 1848, and the new nation built its first white settlements in this territory, including San Francisco. By 1865, the population of the county had grown to over 50,000. In 1868, San Mateo County became part of California's newly formed State System. San Mateo became one of the most heavily populated counties within California and saw rapid growth in both its agricultural capabilities and entertainment industries. Industries such as breweries, shipbuilding and textiles thrived during this time. In 1906, after years of debate and public hearings about land sales across Alameda County proper to support a new city initiative for Oakland (then called New York City), voters chose to annex portions of San Mateo County into Oakland instead. This caused much resentment among those who felt they had been taken advantage of by city hall. However, recent economic development has led to an increasing number of people living in the county seat – East Palo Alto – while many other large towns have experienced declines in their populations or have disappeared entirely due to gentrification processes.
