Firearms became more popular in the 1800s as people began to arm themselves for protection against bandits and other threats. In 1875, Congress passed the first arms control law in America when they passed an act that banned any gun that could be used to assassinate someone. This law helped to create a sense of safe community within America as people started to feel safer with firearms in their hands. The 20th century was also a time where firearms became more prevalent than ever before. Gun manufacturers flourished during this time as people began to demand more powerful and reliable weapons. As weapon technology improved, so too did firearm design and manufacturing; this led to some truly impressive firearm designs throughout the years. During World War I, many Americans turned to shotguns as their primary means of warfare due to the high casualty rates caused by artillery fire. These shotguns proved themselves effective against enemy forces, and eventually replaced rifles as the mainstay of American firepower during WWI. However, despite all of this progressiveness within firearms manufacturing over time, there has never been a single handgun manufacturer that has dominated world trade like Glock has during recent decades!

The city of San Mateo, California was founded on November 3, 1795 by Captain George Francis Smith and his party of nine men under the command of Lieutenant John Donne. The site for the future town was selected because it was located between two hills that would provide a protective position from hostile Native Americans. The first permanent settler in what is nowSan Mateo County was Nicholas-Jacques Conte, who arrived in 1797. He named his new land Rancho Santa Cruz after his patron saint, Santa Cruz de la Vega. In 1851, San Mateo County was formed from part of Contra Costa County when Governor Pio Pico ordered all Californias counties to be divided into two sections according to population size. San Francisco had become an important center of trade with Japan and other Asian countries and its citizens were considered more prosperous than those in other parts of the state. To keep up with this growth, San Francisco decided to build a county courthouse at nearby City Hall Square. When it became clear that City Hall Square could not handle the increasing number of cases being filed there, commissioners voted to build a new county courthouse on State Street close to the University of California at Berkeley (UCLA). This decision resulted in much criticism from business owners and others who saw the move as another example of wasteful government spending. Despite these disagreements over how best to serve their constituents, both counties agreed to merge on January 1, 1907 into one larger unit known asSan Mateo County. The merger created a large area with many different cultures and languages but one common goal: serving the people of San Mateo County as best they could. In 1951, voters passed Proposition 8 which banned gay marriage statewide within California. As a result of Proposition 8's passage, many same-sex couples turned away from moving toSan Mateo due to fears about discrimination or persecution should they find themselves outed by their neighbors or employers
The area of San Mateo County, California that now includes the city of San Francisco was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. The first European to visit the area was Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà in 1769, during a mapping expedition through what is now Northern California. In 1821, United States Major General William Richardson traveled through this area and named it after Santa Clara County, Colorado. After California became a state in 1850, San Mateo County continued to be part of Colorado.
