San Marino is a small city in Northern California, located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The city was founded in 1849 by Italian immigrants and became a U.S. territory in 1912. San Marino has a population of just over 10,000 people, most of whom are residents of the town of Morrone. The history of San Marino begins with two families who came to California from Naples, Italy in 1849: Giovanni Battista Morrone and his wife Caterina da Ponte. The Morrones were farmers who had settled down in what is now eastern Marin County when they arrived at the invitation of Governor John C Corbett to help settle part of Rancho Rinconada given to them by Juan Bautista de Anza on December 8, 1776. In 1847-48, while living near Novato on the north shore of Marin County, Giovanni Battista met Maria Cecilia Borelli (née Donati) and married her on January 25th 1850; she was also from Naples. They first settled at an estate called Fortuna which they continued to own until their death in 1902. A year after their arrival in America together, Caterina gave birth to their only child: Giovanni Battista II Morrone (September 5th 1851 – November 9th 1925). After a few years’ stay with some relatives nearby at Cummer Island off Point Reyes National Seashore before moving back into Fortuna proper within weeks due to boredom following Teresa’s confinement during her father’s illness back home he began school here September 26th 1861 through 1865 then returned home for one summer sick at his mother’s side then again went to school until he finished high school October 15th 1865 then returned home about four months early because his father died suddenly leaving him much older than his cousins Gianni (1836-1910), Salvatore (1841-1924), Annunziata (died 1915) all age 16 or less when their fathers did so but both still qualified under state law as students since education was open unto all “capable alien white males between sixteen years old and twenty-one years old having resided within this State eight months next preceding instruction begining” Under these circumstances it would have been difficult for either Giovanni or Teresa not qualify academically even though they may not have had formal schooling required by law MORRONE FAMILY BACK TO AMERICA 1910 In 1892 a group of local businessmen organized what became known as the Chamber Of Commerce & Industry which functioned as an intermediary between businesses and the government giving rise to today's name "San Marino". The area around present day downtown had been used by Native Americans for hunting grounds since before European settlement began there were references dating back hundreds if not thousands of years that detail various sites where game could be procured such as three lakes east OF Rossmoor Village now used for agriculture with evidence that deer lived there long ago according to Peter Hines authoritatively tracing fossil remains found there inverting an Indian petroglyph discovered near Crescent City eleven miles away

In 1861, after California became a state, San Marino was annexed by Pasadena and incorporated as a city on January 1, 1913. Today, San Marino has a population of just over 6,000 people and is one of the most ethnically diverse places in California. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now San Marino were Native Americans who lived along the Rinconada River and its tributaries for thousands of years before European arrival. The area was first inhabited by Tongva people during prehistoric times and their remains have been found near present day Anza Borrego Springs and Off-Ranch Road #1A (now Via de las Conchas). During pre-mission era days there were no buildings or structures anywhere near today’s town center because all trade took place out on the open prairies which stretched far into what is now downtown Los Angeles County! Trade with Asia began early on with goods such as pottery being traded to China starting about 3000 BC according to some sources while others claim it started earlier still with items like bison meat being transported overland across mountain passes called “the Great Arroyo” many miles long! Some evidence suggests that this route may have been used by Native Americans moving large game southwestward at least 10 thousand years ago! A small village located where current day Rosemead Boulevard meets Interstate 5 outside Downtown Los Angeles began growing about 1800 when Mission Santa Clara priest Father Junípero Serra built his chapel hereabouts This so named Village continued to grow until it had more than 2000 residents by 1818 when Father Manuel Nieto arrived from Puebla Mexico led by instructions from Antonio López de la Orden Jesús del Valle y Salcedo who founded La Purísima Concepción Parish south east of downtownLos Angeles County then part of Padre Junípero’s order!
