Since the early 1800s, San Luis Obispo has been a center of gun industry and commerce. The city is located on the central coast of California, just east of Paso Robles and north of Bakersfield. At that time, rifles were used only for target shooting and hunting game animals. By 1861, there were over twenty gun cases being made per day in San Luis Obispo alone! In 1876, Samuel Colt began mass-producing firearms in his factory at East 20th Street and Third Avenue in New York City with help from local arms dealers John Purdy (founder of Purdy Firearms) and Augustus Grayling (owner/director of American Arms). That same year saw the birth of handgun regulation when Congress passed The National Firearms Act which banned handguns within ten years! A series of accidents led to fatalities involving loaded pistols while driving on May Day 1886 when James Wickersham became trapped under his car after hitting a pedestrian with his pistol while driving southbound on State Route 1 near Ionebridge Junction; Wickersham then shot both victim(s) dead instantly! Wickersham had recently completed six months jail time for attempted murder charges following another accident during his previous job as driver for Butte & Son Hardware store manager Harry Butzkowski! Following this tragedy, state legislators enacted An act entitled: “An act to provide for the safety and protectionof motor vehicles upon public highways” which created new regulations governing traffic along state routes including speeding limits and check points at crossings!
