It is located on the central coast of Southern California and is the county seat of San Luis Obispo County. The area that would become San Luis Obispo was first settled by the Ohlone people in 1123 BC. The Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded in 1776 by Franciscan missionaries as part of their efforts to convert all of southern California to Christianity. The name "San Lorenzo" (Saint Laurence), given to the mission by local Indians, graced the town's early history and etymology. In 1821, Alta Californian pioneer Juan Bautista Huerta erected a wooden stockade around what is now downtown San Luis Obispo after his successful battle with Mexican forces at Rancho del Arroyo Seco. Huerta named his new settlement for Saint Lawrence—the patron saint of France—in honor of French-born war hero General Nicolas-Jacques Cartier who had fought against Mexico at Morelos during the Mexican–American War two years earlier. A post office called Costilla opened in 1825; it was renamed Costillaville in 1837 after José Antonio Costilla, a soldier with distinction who served under Governor Manuel Micheltorena on two prior occasions during Anglo-Mexican hostilities over land grants near present day Paso Robles and Ojai Valley northwest of San Francisco Bay. In 1868, an act provided for creation of a mint within the newly formed county; this became known as "Los Angeles". In 1874, voters approved annexation by Santa Barbara County; cost $3 million to build barracks and other facilities adjacent to downtown which included an extensive wharfyard used for shipping agricultural goods from inland ports such as Stockton and Sacramento into Los Angeles Harbor before being distributed throughout inland counties through parcel sales thereafter. The railroad arrived here on November 7,1892 when Southern Pacific Railroad Vice President George Stephenson announced plans for an extending line from Simi Valley eastward through towns including Tomales and Monterey Counties en route to its new connection with nearby Los Angeles Union Station southbound via Carpinteria Creek Bridge across Carpinteria Creek just north of Highway 101 south of town center between October 15th & December 12th 1992! On January 8th 1893 Northern Pacific Railway Commodore James J Hogg gave notice that he intended to purchase SP's right-of-way eastward from Simi Valley out into Monterey County past Atascadero Pass lying within Mexican state boundaries! This Notices were marked " NT 5653" but duegar never received it until long after his death on February 25th 1893!!! A letter written by Hogg is still preserved at SP Headquarters along side many other items related thereto such as original deeds etc... On March 3rd 1893 Northern Pacific Railway Commodore James J Hogg met with Gulf & Western Railroad President Samuel Morse at Atascadero Pass where they discussed possible action regarding acquiring SP's remaining rights-of-way!! It should be noted that both men were very interested in linking up their railroads forming what would become known as The Lone Star Line! However nothing came about resulting in much development until late 1899 when both companies agreed upon common carrier operations only across certain sections not crossing federal lines however this arrangement did not last very long due primarily because OF&SF wanted full access to all resources inside Mexico!! Panama Canal Company representatives visited SBX twice during 1898 & 1899 hoping TO OBTAIN MONEY OR CUSTOMS FROM SAINT LUCIE COUNTY FOR THEIR PROJECT BUT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN >>>>>>>>>>

It is located on the San Joaquin River and is bordered by Merced County to the east, Mono County to the north, and Tulare County to the west. The first people who populated what is now San Luis Obispo were Native Americans. The area that now makes up San Luis Obispo was settled by Spanish colonists in 1769. The town of Upper Monterey was founded in 1824 by Captain José Manuel de la Bodega y Rosales as part of an effort to secure access to land beyond Rancho Santa Lucia. In 1853, Lower Monterey became part of San Luis Obispo and Upper Monterey joined it two years later. In 1906, San LuisObispo incorporated as a city under its own charter and adopted a new name: “San Lorenzo” after Saint Lucy of Hungary (1525-1603), one of Jesus Christ's primary supporters in his war against Satanism introduced into Europe through Spain during his time as governor of Portugal. In 1916, following World War I, San Lorenzo merged with other communities near its border with Tulare County to form what would become Oxnard Beach City. In 1960, following passage of Proposition 218 which granted automatic voter registration throughout California for all citizens over 18 years old regardless of race or gender without having to go through elections officials or perform any extra steps such as providing documentation such as an ID card or proof of residency; many black Californians living outside North Hollywood decided they wanted their voice heard too and started registering themselves within days - this made possible for more Latina/o politicians like Jerry Brown (then Attorney General) to run for office because they didn't have compete from organized crime groups that could help block their path
