On October 15th of that year, Bernal's forces were repelled by a small group of Californios led by José Maria Blanco y Costilla at what is now known as Point Conception National Monument near present-day Paso Robles. In 1849, San Luis Obispo became part of Mexico and residents continued to call their town Soloman or Solomons because some Spanish colonists had settled there after leaving Mission Santa Clara de Asís behind when they went into exile following Mexico's independence from Spain on April 2nd of that year. After Mexican independence was recognized by both countries on July 14th of 1848 – two days after Commodore Perry sailed through Baja California Peninsula on his Perry Expedition – most English speaking Mexicans began to abandonolidarity with their Mexican counterparts and returned home; however, some continue to reside in San LuisObispo until today because it falls within commuting distance to major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and Imperial Valley cities like Riverside and Modesto). The city was named for Saint Lucy as part to commemorate her work helping the poor during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). The history of San Luis Obispo goes back to whenFather Junipero Serra first visited this area in 1821. He found evidence that there were ancient Native American settlements hereabouts and he named these areas such as Mission Viejo and Rancho San Lorenzo after some Spanish saints who had been martyred in Mexico City at that time. Father Serra soon started exploring these sites himself and discovered several importantMission sanitarios--or hospitals--which he built near his original location now known as downtown San Luis Obisopo. Today many people visit these Missions every day to see how they have changed over time; for example, today’s Mission Santa Clara has been replaced by a modern library! In 1860, Bishop Don José del Rio y Ortega founded another mission here called Nuestra Señora de la Caridad which still provides services today! The townspeople were very enthusiastic about this new development and soon began building their own churches and other buildings. In 1915, Mayor Manuel Avila dedicated a parkland east of town center on what is now North Main Street for residents who needed access to fresh air but could not go into town for fear of getting involved in local politics. This park included tennis courts, horseback riding trails, picnic areas and a well-manicured garden! Today this land forms part of the University Park district which also includes numerous restaurants and shopping centers dating back to the 1920s! A few years later (1929), voters approved Measure B which granted majority ownership to women within 10 years! This was an important step forward because it allowed women more opportunities than ever before to get involved in public life here insanluisco! Over time more women professionals joined the workforce while also making changes to how families lived - some moved out into neighborhoods where they could live close to their jobs rather than staying sequestered inside their homes all day long like prior generations did! Many aspects of our society have come about due to this concerted effort by various groups over those decades: one example is that we no longer bake our own cookies or pies anymore; instead we purchase them preassembled from commercial stores! Additionally we now drive cars rather than using bicycles or walkers/prollers across our streets – something that definitely helped create modern sanluisco architecture!!
