San Luis Obispo, California is a town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River. The first gun magazine in San Luis Obispo was the "AltaMira" rifle and shotgun range (), established by George W. Leake in 1892. In 1903, John Tilton purchased land within what is now downtown San Luis Obispo and founded the "Tilton's Gun Emporium". The first handgun store in town opened up in 1912 by Eben Sumpter along with his brother-in-law Harry Cramer as "Cramer's Gun Emporium". In 1916 Tom Fenton opened up his gun shop just east of downtown called "Fenton's Firearms". It would be renamed as "Fenton & Sons" a few years later when its ownership changed hands several times until it was bought by Adolphus Busch in 1926. The business continued to be run by Fenton until 1959 when it closed down due to financial troubles. In 1945 Don Strohm reopened AltaMira Rifle and Shotgun Range after it had been closed for many years due to fire damage from World War II bombings. At that time there were only 10 rifles and shotguns available for purchase with a $1 per day membership fee which allowed shooters access to all weapons except handguns which were only available through private sales or must be rented from authorized dealers. AltaMira also offered reloading supplies, bear hunting ammunition andTarget practice ammunition at that time. It wasn't until 1969 that they began selling handguns again after previously being without them since 1945! When they did so they decided to reverted back to their original name of AltaMira Rifle and Shotgun Range Incorporated.. In 1984 they added target shooting lanes which are still operational today! In 2003 they became part of Fox Outdoor Incorporated however have not done any major changes since then other than removing some of their firearms inventory (most notably their shotguns) because firearms sales have declined significantly over the past few decades while ammo prices have increased dramatically!

The city was founded on a small island in the river Sacramento, which is now called Rocks Island. The first mayor of town was Antonio Valenzuela. In 1821, California became part of Mexico after its independence from Spain. As part of Mexican territory, San Luis Obispo County became part of Bexar County. In 1846, during the American Civil War, General Stephen Watts Kearny invaded Bexar County and seized it as part of his march to Texas. On October 14,1846, Kearny issued an order that all males over 21 years old must leave their homes within three days or face arrest and imprisonment; this order caused great fear among the adult population because it applied only to soldiers and not civilians. Many women and children were left behind to fend for themselves while their menfolk fought at battle or went into hiding. On November 1,1846, Kearny released all male prisoners except those who had already been exchanged or who could prove they were citizens of Mexico. An estimated 100-300 men chose to remain in San Luis Obispo county rather than be surrendered to General Grant’s army advancing through South Texas at that time. These men formed what would become known as "The Lost Battalion", whose story has been told many times but never fully verified by historians In 1849–50 some land grants were made available unto individuals for Rancho Rinconada (later Rancho Santa Cruz). This land grant system allowed ranching operations to be started without having to get warrants from government officials - a key feature for early Californian ranching efforts due to lack of accessibleoming resources elsewhere in California
