Gun swivels have been around since the early 1800s. The first examples were designed to rotate a gun barrel in order to aim it correctly. They were popular among artillery officers and cavalrymen during the American Revolution, as they allowed them to keep their guns stationary while on horseback. San Leandro, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 80,402 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The earliest permanent settler of what would become San Leandro was Hugh Williamson in 1853 who named his small settlement after his home town of Llanfairpanther, Scotland. In 1868, Mission Santa Clara de Asís founded by Franciscan friars from Monterey Bay claimed land east of Point Moss and south of present-day Oakland for San Lorenzo Valley. This area became part of San Leandro when Rancho Lavaca was patented to José María Crespo in 1868 and then sold to Fernando Wood. In 1876, $675 worth of wagons filled with goods from Concord were unloaded at the wharf on Point Loma because no one could afford to transport goods by water anymore due to tariff changes introduced by President Grant during the Mexican–American War. This event is sometimes called the Wagon Train Massacre because it caused an increase in crime in Oakland and downtown San Francisco during that time period. As early as 1888 there were references to a large oil well being drilled near what would become known as "the Wellhead." When drilling finally began on July 9, 1901 (around 12 years after Williamson's first discovery), little did anyone know that this well would ultimately lead to ChevronTexaco’s current headquarters complex on Peralta Street across from City Hall which still stands today! The late 1800s also saw significant growth in labor activity as international companies such as Standard Oil began production at Fruitvale Station north of BART station and Fenton Avenue ran into difficulty finding local workers they could trust despite offering high wages and benefits packages. Migration increased even more following World War I when demand for skilled labor increased due to new technologies such as aviation and automobiles; however controversy surrounded these types of deals since many women were working outside the home without families or fathers supporting them while men worked inside factories day and night! With rapid population growth coming out of World Wars I through II – especially during World War II – SAN LEANDRO BEGAN TO CRABAPPLE THE DISTRICT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 20TH CENTURY! In 1876–77 three groups of Chinese laborers working for Edison built a small wireless telegraph station near where El Sobrante Boulevard now meets MacArthur Boulevard; this was probably one of the first ever wireless transmissions across water occur
In 1847, the California Gold Rush began and by 1850, San Leandro had become an important port on the coast. In 1868, San Leandro was chartered as a city by Mayor James W. Richardson and it became one of the most populous cities in California. The city's first library was built in 1876. The San Francisco earthquake struck on December 6, 1906 and destroyed much of downtown San Francisco but did notfectSan Leandro. On November 9, 1990, the last days of George H.W. Bush's presidency were marked with a devastating fire that destroyed many businesses in downtown San Francisco; however, no damage was done to SanLeandro. In 2001-2002, redevelopment efforts occurred in Downtown San Francisco which raised prices for properties near Market Street and Diridon Avenue while also creating new opportunities for business growth in adjacent areas including Downtown San Francisco's South Park neighborhood
