On October 15th 1886 - exactly one year after incorporation - san leandro residents voted 1-0-1 with three abstentions for secession from Contra Costa County over taxes levied by county officials not authorized by the citizens themselves; these actions were taken in response to increasing tension between locals and county officials over land ownership, budget disagreements (specifically about water rights), zoning violations (particularly regarding industrial development), police brutality (reportedly motivated by supervisors' jealousy towards lower ranked employees) among other issues (#GreenpeaceDay). The City Administrator at that time reported "the town has done everything possible since its organization...to maintain harmony." San Leandro, California is a city located in San Francisco County, California. The population was 14,153 at the 2010 census. It is the second largest city in San Francisco County and the seventh-largest U.S. city by population after New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Miami Beach. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Leandro were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and Sebastián Vizcaíno on September 2nd 1542 during their voyage of discovery across North America. They named it "Mendoza" after Father Mendoza who had been sent by Spain to survey the area for new lands to explore in 1769-1770. The first permanent residents of what is now San Leandro were José Joaquín de Urquiza and his wife María del Carmen Pacheco on November 9th 1847. They purchased land from Pedro Santana y Salinas which included present day downtown and portions of today's South Park neighborhood before moving there permanently two years later on August 25th 1850 with their six children under one roof for the first time since they'd left Spain. During its early days as an agricultural town - dominated by rice farming - San Leandro was also home to a number of small businesses such as a saddlery shop and three general stores operated by Josefina Guerrero y Valdivia in 1876-1877; Don Miguel Estrada's bakery from 1886-1887; and Drury's Drug Store opened in 1901 across from El Paso Street Station (now part of Hastings BART). In 1906 Mayor James Rolph sponsored legislation that designatedSan Leandro as a "City of Technology". This designation led to increased development around Coyote Creek with numerous new housingttes being erected along Coyote Creek Road between First Street and Second Street during that decade including: The Donnellys' 3 story aluminum frame house at 1050 Coyote Creek Rd.; Harry Mason & Sons' 8 story blockaded redwood building at 5015 Harrison St.; Wm Crain & Son's 10story steel framed office building at 2025 Harrison St.; J H Greenleaf & Sons' 5 story redwood warehouse at 2020 Harrison St.; A Guggenheim Bros.'s modern brick built store Building No 1 (now occupied by Bayshore Shopping Center) was completed adjacent to Calvary Baptist Church midway down Coyote Creek Road south of Harrison Street on January 24th 1912;and World War I veteran Mr John Flanders moved into his home overlooking Coyote Creek Road shortly thereafter - becoming one of the most influential figures in early 20th century American commercial life hereabouts (Flanders eventually served as Mayor Joseph Nevin). In 1938 voters passed a $25 per capita tax levy which raised money for local public works projects such as widening Coyote Creek Road, resurfacing streets throughout town center,new lighting019 streetlights within limits limitsthe installationof sanitary sewers etcetera while extending benefits thereby attracting more jobs into town formerly employed within military installations nearby like Fairfield Naval Air Station or Hunters Point Naval Shipyard just north oftown Limits late 1940s until closing all these installations due largely To WWII rationing Although many current residents grew up during this time period some have stated that they do not remember much about their childhoods because so much has changed since then especially regarding technology
